To all Mousers: Did the ball cross the line or not?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, May 5, 2012.

  1. WHO CARES!

"King" Kenny has lost the only chance he had to con the Yanks into thinking that he's been anything other than an unmitigated disaster for your club.

The only real question that remains is, will he do the decent thing and walk, or will he force the board to kick his sorry arse out into the streets?

    Discuss.

  4. HIAG - no doubt you will not be surprised to know that the KK apologists are out in force this evening.
Classic comments like 'he shouldn't go just because he lost a cup final' and 'it might have crossed the
    Ine'!!

    The delusion continues........

You know what? I think I would actually be disappointed if, like most of the Gooners on this forum, the Mousers woke up one morning and realised that their manager is not up to the task of taking them any further than where they currently are.

Mind you, with the Gooners, it's like watching an eternal yo-yo. One minute it's "Whinger out!" the next it's "Whinger's the one for us, still."

The Grand Wizard is the only man in football who will complain about a goal not being awarded when the ball didn't cross the line.

It's like he saw our semi final, heard our grievance with their second goal, yet completely missed the point as he was scribbling it down in his third volume of We Weren't ****e Today (2011-12 Edition) that he'll recite in post match interviews.

I don't support either team, so I don't really care on a deep level, King Kenny blah blah, but you know what?

I find it ironic and a little unfair that Chelsea should benefit from the doubt, again.

It would have been some kind of justice, them having been awarded a goal that clearly wasn't on their journey to the final, for their opposition to be awarded a goal that may well have been, in the final. Especially considering how they rallied round in the match against us, to render the mistake irrelevant to the outcome of the game. It would have been refreshing if the ref overturned the linesman's decision, just like in our game.

Would have made for a far more entertaining game too, form a neutral's perspective.

Also as a neutral, I feel a bit for the dude with the pony tail, he did a very good job for the time that had on the pitch and deserves some credit after the torrid time he's had.

Good point lockstock. Let's hope karma comes around for the CL final. They lose and finish 6th in the league. That's worse. The FA cup is a mere consolation at that point.

I saw it live and I was convinced it was over the line.
Upon seeing the replay, its very difficult to tell, but it looks like the entire ball did NOT cross the line so it was an excellent decision from the linesman.

That being said, if the ref / linesman is not sure, he cannot call it. That is the policy that is currently employed by the refs.
Cannot possibly blame anyone for the decision, if it turns out to be wrong. This actually was incredibly difficult to call. Just a shame that it will mar what was a deserved Chelsea victory and an exciting 2nd half of football.

Think everyone is saying the ball didn't cross the line, there is no discussion. There are no threads on our board debating about it.

Well if Carroll was actually competent in the basics of football and followed up the chance rather than wheeling away to celebrate as the ball bounced clear the result may have been different. The amount of times players don't play to the whistle or never follow up chances these days is ridiculous. It was one of the first things I was ever taught at football training at school.

It was the 100% the right decision. For one it didn't cross the line, but most of all if the ref isn't sure then he simply can't give it. Exactly what should have happened when you played Chelsea - the problem is some refs/linesmans are weak and will give it on players reactions.

  14. To be fair to you Mousers, that is true. I've had a good look for juicy quotes, but you all seem to be taking a very pragmatic view of the whole incident.

I don't like it when that happens, because I can't take the piss so easily!

Of course not, because you just might end up qualifying for a competition we qualified for a month ago minus winning a cup along the way.

I think its a shame that the debate over whether it was a goal or not has meant that little has been said about the World class save made by Petr Cech,he was quality.

Oh so we should have a goal awarded against us that wasnt a goal because we got a goal in the semi final that you think wasnt a goal...yea makes sense.
Perhaps the ref could carry a notebook around the pitch with him with all debatable decisions in it from the whole season and give decisions in the cup final based on decisions made in other games.....Yea makes sense.

Would have made for a far more entertaining game too, form a neutral's perspective........

Yep,lets give a goal that wasnt a goal so it makes it more entertaining for the neutral.....yea makes sense.

The Mousers want the table calculated on the amount of chances, not goals scored. Worst season since 1953. Remind me, Hodgeson wasn't the Manager then was he?

It reminds me of the old joke about the act before before being so bad that the audience booed all the way through MY act.

Bollocks HIAG. This is disappointing coming from the guy with the philosophy of...'never let the facts get in the way of a good wind up'.
