I've wanted to write this thread for a long time but now seems a good time as any, I think Newcastle are the most mentally positive team in the U.K
because of many factors. remember when last season Stephen Ireland and Leon Best got in trouble for boozing, the first thing Cabaye said when he came was 'These English players don't know how good they have got it over here and they seem to waste their time drinking themselves into horrid state' now I am not against enjoying yourself but as a pro athlete you should have some self control, Bringing me to my main point Ben Arfa, Demba Ba, Pappis Cisse and Titote are all practicing Muslims and me being one myself can tell you how hard it can be. no drinking, women and so on. but what im saying is do you think it has helped us reach the position we are being more 'spiritual' Pardew thinks so (bellow) and I believe it has given us a more 'grown up attitude'

I think that, in religion there is responsibility and respect so a devout follower of any faith is bound to be well balanced. I reckon when team mates see how they carry themselves some of it must rub off.

I don't really want to class our fanbase or club as the most spiritual or one that has the best support, because I haven't witnessed every other club's fan base.

But I think we're definitely one of the best, certainly the best in the UK.

In the world? One of the best, but I don't want to say THE best. I can't be sure.

Haha yeah but I thought you meant the most spiritual as in the most deep and linked with the players. Sorry mate.

In terms of religion, there's a quite a few muslims and a few christians.

I'm spiritualised right now... I've been drinking spirits since about 5pm since getting home. But yes on the topic I believe that players in that state of mind must be easiest manage. But everyone to their own.

At least someone in the team has the right idea for faith. Good man, Cabaye.

    Don't start.

For me it just comes down to professionalism, you always hear about Coloccini as captain being one of the first on the training ground, and if you read the program today Colo said that the much improved Perch is one of the very hardest workers at the club in training. With that level of professionalism plus the quality of the players putting us where we are why would you jeopardise it with a stupid drinking session midseason? I think religion is a good help to some people to do that, but its not necessary as its very possible to be moral and professional without being spiritual at all. Whatever it is, it works.

It shouldn't matter about your religion, it should matter about how you conduct yourself around others, if you behave, then good, if you're bad, then boo.

Isn't Coloccini Catholic? I expect Perchy to be Christian too.

I think if a prayer room helps the morale of a few of our players and maybe makes it more likely that they are happy and more willing to stay at the club, then it's a good idea. After all, it's a pretty small thing compared to some of the demands some top football players have.

And it's not like any of the players at the club talk about or push their religion on the fans or in public, so it's really just a matter between them and the club.

Also, while you don't have to be religious to be professional by any means, I'm not going to complain about people who quietly take their religion seriously and, as a consequence, conduct themselves in a serious and professional manner, just because I don't happen to be religious myself. Whatever works for people eh?
