Homecoming queen improved for every run and had the advantage of a run ! She won by 9 lengths and probably won't win again but remember she beat nothing special today with the 2nd favourite 20-1 starter on debut 3 weeks ago ! Maybe did dissapoint but will be the one who will come out of the race after having a run today !
Two places for the day, so an improvement on yesterday but no winners. Guineas was a strange race, not a result I can take completely seriously, but it was a wonderful effort by the winner.
Homecoming Queen's victory confirmed for me that you can usually throw 2YO form out of the window when looking at the Guineas. If you look at her 3YO form in isolation she had 2 runs prior to today and won a Group 3 from some nice animals. If Maybe had run already it may have saved punters millions today.
What the hell are Godolphin doing with their horses?...and other peoples horses. Two unbeaten fillies totally eclipsed today and no representation in the 2000 guineas. Staggering since they have a pool of about 700 UK based horses when one includes those owned by the sheikh's oldest son and youngest wife.
I agree that Godolphin are nowhere near the force of old, quantity over quality seems to be their motto of late! However, getting good 2yo fillies to train on is notoriously difficult - just look at what happened with MEMORY last year.
True PN...but they have been very expert in the past with their fillies in particular. I agree a more selective policy might be the way forward.The Aga Khan and indeed Juddmonte,to a lesser extent,seem to prosper from this approach.
Lets not forget todays race was exceptional in many ways, the race was held up for a good amount of time and nothing got into the race from the rear. The two Godolphin horses were never going, and I dare say that we haven't seen their true runnings today. Lets also not forget they have had horses such as Blue Bunting in recent years. They are not a backwards team for me, especially with Al Zarooni who impresses me with his runners.
They were desperately unlucky with Rewilding too but I agree that they aren't, at this minute in time, as strong as they have been.

Before the off of the 1000 Guineas, I was talking to the O'Brien lads and I told them that I thought that Maybe was an Oaks filly not a Guineas filly. One of them confirmed that they were here [Newmarket] to pick up something on their way to Epsom. I would not write her off yet. In the Guineas, I thought that Homecoming Queen was running as a pacemaker - clearly the jockeys thought the same until she showed them a clean pair of heels! Neither would I. It will be interesting to see how she does on better ground. Only in recent years OddDog. When I used to bet religiously on the Guineas ante-post, the top two-year-old races used to throw up the Guineas winners virtually every year. It was tragic the accident that claimed Gray Pearl and everybody will sympathise with connections. With regards to Godolphin's woes, if Kailani (daughter of Guineas and Oaks winner Kazzia) proves as good on better ground in a proper Oaks trial, I imagine that Sheikh Mohammed will find the supplementary Oaks fee. Hopefully it does not just turn out that she beat trees or she has to have it soft. I wish I had not been put off that Maarek by the fact that it was a twenty-four runner sprint handicap on soft ground. I don't bet when the ground is soft. But well done to all those who cashed in on the excellent info.
