So, looking for positives for Liverpool, do people feel Carrol can come good next season? In recent weeks, he's turned games (Everton, Blackburn as well as the cup final) and I think he has the potential to really start banging them in. Him & Suarez could form a deadly partnership if they can both stay fit. Would you give him a bit longer or sell him his summer
I'm a fan of him. He's not worth £35m but that's not his fault. He has not had one decent cross and has been dead unlucky not to be picked week in week out. I would keep him.
It may not be next season but I think that he will become one of the best target men in the league in years to come.
Credit where credit is due he seriously upped your whole team today. He was a game changing player and almost did it for you guys. Hes got the potential to become a very good striker, fair play to him getting that monkey off his back in recent weeks aswell.
I'm a big big fan of Carroll. Always have been, including when he was at Newcastle. I have confidence in him.
Andy Carroll was annoying when he first surfaced in the Newcastle first team. If memory serves, he went to ground too easy, wasn't that strong and his finishing was piss-poor, not to mention his Shola-esque talent for standing outside of the box when the wingers need someone to aim for. Slowly he became quite a potent target man and a real asset, but I don't think Liverpool will ever see what you'd expect in a £35 million pound striker, namely scoring goals. It's been a bit of an unfair burden, I suppose, given that build-up play is his forte. It's not his fault you have another one of those in Suarez and no finishers. He does have some technical ability, but he's got little vision and he's not at all focused on finishing, more like what he'll be whinging to the referee next about (yeah Krul didn't touch you you ****ing moron, what are you complaining about???). His heading ability needs a lot of work as well. He has power, but in general he seems to have little control over the direction. Overall, it's difficult not to conclude we've sold you a younger version of Grant Holt, if Holt had a tad more speed and was ****ter at shooting. Will he ever be a leading premier league scorer? I doubt it, but if he applied himself and you inject Downing etc with some blue smarties it might happen one day. The fear, of course, is that he's just a pony-tailed Emile Heskey... Then again, Emile did well for you lot
We'll see! He will need games though thats's for sure. And decent service which he isn't getting now.
Yeah, you go tell your chairman the price doesn't matter mate! You won't be able to afford to do that every year, and spending 35 million on a player who rarely starts or plays well against elite competitors, while I know nothing of Liverpool's finances, well it just can't happen. Molby's talking about major re-investment... in the same areas... Sounds a lot like the strategy of previous Newcastle owners, and look where we ended up! It's hilarious how you're prepared to call me bitter (though I've seen Andy Carroll play many more times than you) just because I don't give you a glowing, stick-fire works up your arse report of how he's the next Lionel Messi! I mean, how could a Newcastle fan be bitter when that deal has re-shaped our team to the level we're now performing at? You're dreaming sunshine! Hahaha Jose Enrique, on the other hand, now there's a stupid little **** if ever I saw one, and I'm very glad he didn't win the FA cup. Still my bitterness will be long forgotten next year, much like many a Toon fan, because we've proved the arrogant little **** wrong. While I'm on the topic, some of the Liverpool fans on here are idiotic if they think Enrique should no probe forward, it's one of his best attributes. I didn't start Andy's biggest fan, though he won me over in some respects when he started showing improvement, but in my opinion he is now festering in a mid-point state between the bad and that improvement.
bellamy, downing and henderson were disgraces yesterday. none of them would put the bloody ball in there for him .Bellamy in particular at 33 was shocking. Your last cup final and you deliver that? small timer. downing was a thundering disgrace and he was only interested in back passing and not losing it. a waste of space. credit to andy he came on and went for it. it improved suarez and of course gerrard decided to play for once. Agger was brilliant too. pity about Reina. We need radical team change to compete.
UTD fan in peace I always said that although carroll will never be a golden boot winner for you he will come good if you play the ball to his feet Of course he needs to build his confidence but overall I think the size of the fella detracts from his skill with the ball at his feet Suarez is a quality player but Kenny needs to beat into him that its a team game. Its fair enough taking a shot at goal as a striker but some of his decision making stinks IMO and the angles he tries from are ridiculous, especially when there are better options Think you need to filter out Stevie G as an influence or game changer, guy has been a brilliant servant to you but just cant do it anymore You need to build your team around the likes of hendo and carroll, give them some confidence and responsibility. If not then either they need to be moved on or become bit part squad players Just an opinion
You know I am finding it hard to remember the last time he played a considerable time of a game and not put the effort in, he has been playing well for us for some time now. Think people are mistaking his form for the time he spends on the bench. It may still not be a popular choice for the nation but I think he would be an asset to England at the Euros...he will do a better job than Heskey and possible get a couple of important goals.
What's that supposed to mean? Not all players just come good straight away, just look at Ronaldo in his first few seasons at Man U.
Pretty sure his header went in, they showed a freezeframe on ITV that showed the entire ball was in before it came back out off Cech/the woodwork.
I think Carroll is finally beginning to show the form that we hoped he would. He needs to keep improving, but I'm much more optimistic for him than I was earlier in the year. I don't think however, that we should be putting too much emphasis on his aerial ability in the box. He wins almost every header played up to him from deep when he's outside the box, but then he either tries to lay it off or, more often than not, brings it down to his feet. I still think he lacks that combination of power and accuracy, plus the will to really attack the ball, to score a lot with his head. I'm not convinced that it's purely down to the poor quality of crosses to him, although that is a factor too. Like Crouch, I think he has a lot more to his game than his heading. I still think we need an out-and-out goalscorer, and I think Andy can be a much more valuable member of the team if that weight of expectation is taken from him.
Agree wholeheartedly, I think he can use more support as well. Often when he is in a position to hold the ball up there isn't many players in support other than Suarez. Downings movement off the ball was absolutely diabolical yesterday, and he has no relationship with either of the full backs.
I think you look at a lot of his headed goals and they aren't from whipped in crosses from the byline. A lot of his headed goals for us and Newcastle were from deep and they were hung up into the box. This is where he will have an advantage on any player as he can see the flight of the ball, run and it and his height and power will beat 99% of players. Look at his header v City last year, his header yesterday, his goals for Newcastle against Arsenal, Blackburn, City they were from balls that were just clipped in, not with pace, but with height. We need to play to his strengths because he's got all the attributes to be a top player. Maybe not 20+ goals a season but maybe 15 and a similar number of assists with his flick ons and confusion he causes in the box.
