The OP is a Man United fan and seeing as they have/had Ruud Van Nistledive,Wayne ''I'm an honest player,I don't deliberately fall over'' Rooney and Cristiano ''I broke a nail'' Ronaldo and Nani who got a graze and when he realised the player who tackled him didn't get sent off he chased the ref around the pitch and then fell back down and started to cry. They are ones to talk.Pot,Kettle, and black spring to mind. Before they mention Gerrard beat up a DJ.There is a long list of your players and ex players misdemeanours a mile long.Like Man Uniteds pervert ex chairman,Bobby Charlton the mother disowner,Ryan Giggs the girl beater, and don't get me started on Man Uniteds greatest ever player George Best, the drunken liverwasting wifebeating jailbird.

I don't know if they'd say the same - I'd be surprised if Ronaldo or Drogba said diving is ruining the game. Drogba even admitted that sometimes he goes to ground easily when he feels he's been fouled and thinks he deserves a penalty. As for Ferguson, he made Rooney apologies to Villareal after diving in the Champions League a couple of years ago. Hardly the actions of someone who tells his players to dive.

Actually, in my opinion the problem with diving is not that players outright dive in the absence of any contact, as that happens very rarely and the player generally apologises for it afterwards as Rooney and Walcott did. The problem is that the rules encourage players to go to ground if there's the slightest amount of contact. If they try and regain their balance and reach the ball, the referee plays advantage and the opportunity for a penalty is gone, so most attacking players will go to ground as soon as they feel any contact rather than risk not being able to reach the ball.

If you look at the five Gerrard 'dives' above, there is some degree of contact in four of them. The only one where there's no contact is when he dives over the sliding keeper in the third one. And as UEFA showed with the Eduardo case in 2009, if there is even the slightest contact the player can't be officially done for diving. That ruling just encourages simulation in my opinion - the rule should be changed to force players to make a genuine effort to play the ball even if there is slight contact, and also to allow referees greater flexibility to punish players who simulate even if contact is made (jumping over the challenge, throwing the arms up, holding their face, or running around like a drama queen then falling over in front of the ref clutching their face and punching a first aider...).

Swarbs finally we agree on something.
The rules are in place so players can use simulation. Its been obvious for years.
However.A lot of managers tell their players to run across a defender. Its the oldest trick in the book. Some people call it an unfair advantage. But advantage being the key word.I made my last comment because Hizmo singled out a Liverpool player, and I got defensive,However, you speak more sense than Hizmo. And I completely agree with your points.

Swarbs, your intelligence can be beneficial elsewhere. I do not see why you should put effort into writing a comment. I'm going to be honest with you, I surely think you should spend your time elsewhere.

Hizmo my comment at dogging out Man United players and their ex players and poking fun at the ''Belfast Drunk'' was aimed at you.
Swarbs in fairness to him provides decent debate, although most of it I disgree with. You are just a mong.

Oh I do, don't worry about that. But writing market research reports and company analyses is pretty stressful on the old noggin, so it does me good to engage in a bit of mindless football banter from time to time. Helps stop my head overheating <ok>

i dont care what PR stunt Fergie pulled to make rooney make a useless apology after the fact, he told players to dive to win penalties. Dont deny it just to back up your points, dodgy foundations to a shakey argument. It is very easy to be human and feel one way and in the heat of the moment and if a player invites and you are under pressure for a result, it would be very tempting to me and I hate diving.

Rooney apologising, c'mon, I am sure he meant it btw, pathetic to point towards that meaningless gesture, when did fergie have Nani Fletcher Skippy(many many times) apoligise for dives Berba? your team has had more of its fair share of diving gits, Joe Cole another awful faker seeing as you mentioned Chelsea players (I do know he's at LFC btw as I know you'd jump on that), it aint just drogba he is just high profile, noone takes note of many others doing the exact same until it happen against your team, then you takr note. A lot of your argument is opinion and flash in the pan opinions you feel very strongly about without actually researching as if you do you will find United have been on the good side of dives a lot more than liverpool. I guess Gerrard is the only footballer to contradict himself. Drogba called the ref a cheat when he handballs the football into the net and you dont say he's a hypocryte, not that it matters, it is drogba I would say is not the most hoonest of players, he doesnt play an honest game at all even without the dives, the feigning injury is a favourite of his. Like Nani so often, this time someone actually caught him, boy who cried wolf springs to mind.

You use Drogba as an example of honesty? "He wouldn't say he hates diving" how exactly do you know he has never said this in his career to someone? Or is it "who you say it to" or "where it is printed" that matters then?. Or is it you have a hard0n for stevie and just cant stop taling to him like the lad you used ot like in school but teased him in a childish crush way.

Let it go man, He said he hates, he then dived for the bebefit of the team not becase he forgot what he once said, you think after he dived and won a pen he immediately thought Oh fook, Swarbs is gonna let me have it now for being a hypocryte:)

Drogba is a step apart because he is such a terrible play actor, Skippy dived so does Stevie and many others but they dont roll down the pitch like someone shot em with sniper rifle

Rooneys dive today, pretending he got poleaxed and a ridiculous dive 2 minutes later for a penalty, the first dive was just like the one he tried to get Luis booked with at the bridge.

I reckon Wayne is a far worse offender than stevie regardless of what Gerrard has said, United again told to do this as per fergie's orders I reckon, they go down all too easy

Vidic should have got red you lucky cnts, second was a pen Vidic's foot was on the line but the contact was just below the knee which was in the box, should been booked for it too, how he is still on the pitch is beyond me

There is things that go on in football that are disgraceful. One of which is diving, and I do admit Gerrard does it,but then so do Rooney,Drogba etc.
The other thing that is disgraceful and has to be ommited is the constant shirt pulling done by Vidic. He was at it today again, and by rights he should have seen red. This is not an anti Man United post. Its just Vidic is the worst culprit.

True and I wont be surprised if they get something from this game yet.

Remember the cup final comments after we lost to wh 3 1, and well it seems they aren't too bad after all. Our cup final was beating the CHAMPIONS in their own ground, united failed to do this

Bringbackfootee. We could also beat the champions elect in their own ground. We've to still play Arsenal at the emirates.Man United fans may not like this but title is Arsenals to lose.Potentially 2 points behind with a game in hand.
I hope it happens, because I will post an article titled Number 19,where is it.??????

Okay, Stevie's a cheat and a diver and a rubbish footballer and he's the reason England have never won the World Cup and he's got loads of personal problems and he should be in prison and he was gonna go to Chelsea.

    Are you hard now?

It's a funny way to get it up but whatever gets you thru the night, Dizmo.
