I agree, at the moment it is Kompany but when Vidic comes back from injury, he will be back, Vidic is a strong man, strong character im sure he'll be back to his best when he's back. with Vermalen i think thats because he was played in left back most of the times, i think at CB he is better then Koscienly and Agger too i would say. Torres at that time did make alot of mockery with Vidic but that doesn't make Vidic bad, how many times did Antonio Valencia made a big mockey with A Cole, he made cole look like a championship player at times but it doesn't make him bad does it?
of course he'll recover, and taking about pace, Vidic never really had good pace even before, he uses his strength and experience and his know how. Besides the bull**** I think my point stands. You can't say Vidic is the best in the league based on performances ages ago. Plenty have performed really well this year above him.
That depends on your definition of "best defender". You are right that he cant be said to be the best defender on form or the best this season, but you can fairly look at the last couple of seasons to help you judge ability, which is where i think Vidic is still the best.
Agger is quality but you can't compare him to Vidic, Coloccini got into the TOTY with Kompany but I wouldn't compare him with Vidic either. The only Centre Halves you can liken to Vidic are Pique and Kompany.
This is a great thread: Valencia tells us that Vidic is the best, someone disagrees and he tells them they're being ridiculous and only his opinion is worthy. However, it has taken my mind temporarily off our game today, so I thank you for it. Vidic in his prime was slightly better than Kompany now but with his injuries he's not the same player.
