It doesnt quite cross the line, not so the human eye can be 100% sure so as the unwritten rule goes, if your not 100% sure you cannot give it.

Apart from straight at him, that was probably the only part of the goal Cech could possibly have got to it. Carroll should have headed it downwards. However, given the circumstances it's not really as easy as that so I'll let him off. It will still be considered a missed free header though, great as the save was.

 

Which is as it should be, but unfortunately isn't. If the ref said he was 100% sure today's went over, while you may disagree with him, you'd at least understand his judgement as it appears it was very marginally not in. In other cases, like the Chelsea semi, there's absolutely no way Atkinson was 100% sure it was in. The ball didn't even touch the line, let alone go in!

It's unfortunate that it happens both ways; should every 'goal' that is on or around the line be disallowed based on reasonable doubt, there would be little to complain of. But when refs are giving goals that aren't and not giving goals that are, you have to question their credibility. It's like when a linesman gives somebody offside when they're not, then in the same game doesn't give someone offside when they are. If you get it wrong the same way each time (i.e you give them off when they aren't) then you could understand it to an extent, but to get it wrong both ways invites some serious questions.

Is it just me, or is the goal frame leaning back a bit? The cross bar isn't in line with the touchline in this pic. Maybe just the angle? I said before I didn't think it was in, but I'm questioning it now:

For me, I think if it was over the line it would make the loss all the more painful to take.

 

They do seem to tilt a little. Maybe the lines are not straight lol. Less likely tbh.

Anyway even if 99% of the ball is over the line its still not a goal so from that image there is no way you can say its over 99% over the line.

Also he was a wee bit too quick to wheel away and celebrate. Had he stayed where he was he could have forced it over the line whilst Cheque was on the floor and Ivan was hesitating. But that's being hypercritical again.

That's cos the camera isn't in line with the touchline. The Parallax effect. But imo it isn't out of line enough to raise much doubt.
