Erm, Ebenezer Cobb Morley should have a statue in Hull - you wouldn't have any statues or history if it wasn't for the man from Hull who wrote the rules of football!

Not like Leeds as a city that has to pinch history because it has none... the worst part from that link was this:

"Ibbeson was also the sculptor of Leeds' tribute to Arthur Aaron VC, the city's only recipient of the Victoria Cross during World War II. The medal was awarded posthumously after the pilot's death flying in an 1943 air raid".

...Not saying the bloke doesn't deserve a statue, but when there aren't any in Hull commemorating the two World Wars, you can see why all this ERDF, Millenium and Lottery funding is all backwards when it comes to dishing out cash. Leeds' involvement in the world wars was a minute blip in comparison to Hull's, yet Leeds has a statue to a war hero and Hull doesn't. All wrong - just like the Royal Armouries being situated in Leeds, when throughout history, they were kept in Hull... why do government (and other alternative funding) bodies insist on re-writing history to try make it more modern?

I wonder if the conversation went "So, the Royal Armouries, they were kept in Hull - shall we put up a museum?" "Yeah, but people can't go to Harvey Nicks after they've learnt about historical things, so...", "Oh, true, lets stick it in Leeds then... that's still Yorkshire".

I spoke to a bloke at the Humber St market a few weeks back - he said he's raising money to get a memorial to the citizens of Hull who lost their lives in WWI & II.

He said it's a disgrace how much lack of recognition Hull's part in those wars gets, even today.

He told me something interesting that I'd not heard before... he said the governor of Malta visited Hull after WWII - Malta received the George's Cross and apparently Malta's governor said it was a disgrace that Hull hadn't received a George's Cross, as what it's inhabitants had gone through was soo much more than anything Malta had contributed to the war effort.

As I've said many times before - if Hull was a person, it'd be considered a war hero.

The bloke also said he's going to apply to get Hull a George's Cross - he said he knows there isn't a cat in hells chance of getting it, but at least it'll bring some attention to the efforts in which the people of Hull played in the wars.

He also mentioned about getting a museum going.... he said he'll have a permanent stall in the indoor market in the coming months - I hope all City fans will get on board and help back his plans.

I remember reading this story and it just shows how little those in power are bothered about Hull's involvement in the wars was...

    Point missed.

We really should have something done to remember the unique feats of people like Ian Ashbee, in fairness.

TBH, I don't really have an opinion of you so don't expect owt.

Now you have drawn my attention with that comment, I have to say it's the type of bitchy inconsequential crap I would expect from a 14 year old lass with PMT.

    No offence.

As most people that get a statue tends to be when they're dead, most of ours won't be built for quite a while yet. That's why I think it's quite fitting to have one of Cobb Morley at the KC, to show visitors that Hull had a big say in the invention of football. I imagine in the future, Ian Ashbee, Dean Windass and possibly Phil Brown may have statues put up.

A history is still a history if you've won anything or not - it doesn't mean it didn't exist. Considering we were founded in 1904 and you were founded in 1919, we actually have more of a history than you do!

There is a very stylish plinth-like statue of VC winner Jack Harrison just near the KC entrance

I would humbly suggest that one of Dean Windass anywhere near it would be an insult.

I meant as in city centre memorial statue - a lot of Jack Harrison VC memorial is to do with him being a former Hull FC player too.

    I know!

Read the wording on the plinth...hero, sportsman, teacher and husband or summat similar, and the image is from an old photo.

The last thing we need is a 'me too' clunky **** statue like Boro, Stoke, Sunderland, Leeds etc

Just out of interest, when did you play for Leeds United and what position did you play?

Ah this again. You've still yet to explain to me how we bribed our way to victory when we lost the only games it was claimed bribery took place.

Also, you still claim to not care about us but have started a thread about a statue about one of our club legends outside our ground and say you hope it gets vandalised. You're getting worse than the Huddersfailed fans for ****'s sake.
