How can you sell it when nobody bids for it? The title should be 'If the council wont give the stadium away for free'.

Looking at the poor turn out yesterday overall (only 17% in Hull who can vote apparantly did) who really cares about local issues anymore ? Apathy reigns supreme all over it seams.

On the subject of stadium, Chelsea have just submitted a bid to buy Battersea Power Station, to build a 60,000 seater stadium on the site.
We worried about going to Melton, when Chelsea could be going to the dogs. <doh>

There's knack all point in voting in Hull anyway. What was the swing at the last General election? Wasn't one seat about 15% to the Lib Dems and Labour still got over 50% of the vote for it?

Without getting too political - how exactly does the polling system work around here?

    I don't mean I don't know how to vote ;)
But I know a few people who live down the Cottingham part of Bricknell Ave, and there's no polling station, why is it only certain people get to vote :S

I was one of the 83% (apperently) who didn't vote and my reason was simply that I don't know **** about any of the candidates.

I mean, sure, I get Mike Ross's thrice-daily leaflets through my door repeating the same old stuff about Labour only turning up at election times, spending £85,000 on a private road for councillors, bla, bla, bla but I haven't heard anything from Labour's candidate and apart from blowing his own ****ing trumpet I don't have a clue who this Ross bloke is.

All the media organisations have to be totally partial and whilst I completely understand the reasons behind that, I think it just prvents them from telling you anything, you can't get any information that isn't massively biased or so neutral that it's not even telling me anything. There is no middle ground.

Because the Cottingham part of Bricknell Ave is in Cottingham which is not part of Hull and so you can't vote for Hull City Council

I apologise if I'm stating the obvious

What drivel - turnout in my Ward Sutton was 28 % -not great but not far off the typical 33% that have nearly always voted at local elections.

If you don't vote you can hardly complain can you?

Back to the Stadium - built with £43.5m of public money and given away in a whim for free - good business.

Also, can't believe any of the 11000 or so Fc fans being happy with the local politicians for making such a decision.

It's not exactly like this, but I think it's something along the lines of each time there's a local election 1/3 of the seats are up for grabs and they're elected for 4 or 5 years each. So if each Ward has 3 seats then over a 4 or 5 year period you'd only get to vote in 3 years, and they're staggered so that different areas have different years off.

It's been 6 years since I moved, and up here we have a proportional representation system so it's done completely differently so I might be talking crap about the way it works in Hull, but that's how I remember it being.

I don't recall saying they should give it away. I do remember them issuing a statement or being on the radio saying that they wouldn't enter into any negotiations because they felt the stadium should remain Council owned whatever happened. Even if there's been no offer to buy that is a statement of intent saying they wouldn't sell anyway.

Giving it away though would be no worse a business decision than retaining it when it makes no money for them and saying that no borrowing should ever be secured against it.

How dare you, what's wrong with the idea of Councillor Liam Cooper being our centre half next season? It would make the teamsheet at away games amusing when the announcer had to give them their proper title.

I'd vote for Councillor Cooper, he can't be any worse than the current useless tossers.

Agree, there's nothing wrong in giving it away for nothing so long as the ratepayers of Hull agree to it. By electing people to represent their views in this matter, they have.

Clearly the revenue implications of a capital asset can be onerous thus the willingness of the politicians ten years ago to agree to the running of the stadium by the then newly formed SMC.
