http://wearethenorthbank.com/arsenal-turn-down-adams-for-assistant/ Personally i'm hoping for steve bould.
If true this is a big mistake - he is a leader and will not let Wenger away with any b/s. Perhaps that is the reason he was turned down.
I would say it's more likely because Bould is a better candidate. He is managing a successful youth and reserve team (who won the fa youth cup a few seasons ago) and he is already working within the club and with the players on the fringe of the first team. Adams is an Arsenal legend - as a player. But his managerial record is not of the calibre currently that Arsenal need and his appointment at the moment would be a negligent one, based on sentimentality rather than pragmatism.
Tony has an awful coaching record. Steve Bould would be better.. or Bergkamp if he is available one day.
Agreed with you guys, would much rather see Bould get the nod and it looks to be the way this is going . Hopefully Tony can get another managerial post under his belt.
Bould should get it, he's already been coaching at Arsenal at some level for some time now, so knows the set up etc, so it's important to have someone from within the club being put in and promoted, as Wenger would say, we need to look from within, someone who's very familiar with the set up, philosophy etc. Yes, Adams played for us, but playing for a team, and coaching the team is two very different things, and I think our philosophy has changed somewhat since the days of Adams, so Bould all the way.
Arsene and Tony Adams would probably be like chalk and cheese. I doubt if Tony would hold back voicing his opinion and we know how sensitive Arsene is to criticism. A characteristic that seems to coincide with age. Adams or Bould? Well I like both, in fact as much as I would like to see Arsene leave. Him and those idiots on the board. Steve Bould seems to me to be a natural fit for the job whoever the manager might be.
Seems like a good shout. Adams managerial record is not really an issue - to be honest whether it is as a defensive coach or assistant manager. I am actualy worried about any strategy Arsenal have of promoting within. I watch the reserve and youth games on Arsenal TV and it seems that the issues with the club are from top to bottom at all levels. Someone from the outside would be preferable to shake things up a bit and bring in new ideas.
Of course it is. His managerial record is a direct indication of his style, coaching, tactics and man management. He may have been a great player, but his forays into coaching and management have been dire. I wouldn't want him anywhere near Arsenal until he's proven that he can cut it at the top level. Steve Bould has 11 years of experience managing the youth team and a number of successes within that, be it trophies or developing players into the first team. He is by far and away the better candidate. If anyone were to come in as a defensive coach, I'd rather see Keown take the job.
Managing a youth team - with players desperate to impress the boss so they can live the lives of footballers is very different to managing millionaires. Bould's experience counts for very little at the higher levels. Adams has at least experienced first hand what a challenge it is, and in his only attempt at an assistant managers role to Redknapp helped Portsmouth to their highest finish in the PL and an FA Cup win. Although as the Manager (after Redknapp left) he failed, he still got the job which tells me he wasnt doing such a bad job as an assistant. truth is Portsmouth were in dire financial trouble then anyway. God couldnt have done a better job. Adams is a born leader and is exactly what we need. I like Bould, but he is just another Pat Rice in my view. He'll just do whatever Wenger tells him to do.
Except as assistant manager he helped Portsmouth to their highest league finish and an FA Cup win. Has Bould ever achieved anything remotely close to that in his coaching career?
Bould won the FA cup with the youth team, that's probably on a par with an assistant manager helping to win the senior FA cup. I'd love to see Adams succeed at Arsenal, but at the moment, he's not shown enough to suggest that he warrants a position and taking him on now would be an error of judgement based on sentimentality rather than what he can actually offer. He's also said in the past that he would want more of a say in how things are run, I don't think he and Wenger would be compatible in a management role. In my opinion, it would be a recipe for disaster.
Our Mod thinks Piskie and Dickie's Tash are the same person. Why would you? I mean agreeing with yourself?
