Couldn't help but notice that Nicky spent all of 6-8 minutes on the pitch for this promotion play-off game and generally seems to be a very small bit player since his move to WHU. Doesn't seem to be the role he had intended for himself and as far as being a Premiership regular next season, assuming WHU get the job done, doesn't seem to be on the cards as far as I can see. Get the feeling that Nicky could be up for sale if the Hammers get promoted because the team will require some strengthening for the fight ahead and I just can't see him making the grade. Sometimes the grass on the other side of the fence looks very green from afar but occasionally it will hide a monster that will bite off your head and lose it's appeal very quickly. I was never a Nicky fan when all went wrong as is well documented on this board but I just wish he had thought the process through a bit more sensibly. Ah well we can't change the past and now we move on to better things.
As much as he pissed me off with his transfer saga with us, we all know he is a decent player. It's a shame that he listened to his agent or ego, this has happened to him. He took a gamble by signing for a club knowing they bought another proven championship scorer, IMO gives a little bit extra as Vaz Te also plays wide making him a better all round player. And as we can see not getting a lot of match play. Think he still has something to offer, but should off thought it through it through little bit better. As a few of us mentioned sign a contract with a release clause to a prem club if they came in for him. But he took a while to settle, when he first came here and we all know what happened next, so maybe it might work out for him. Don't dislike the player just the way he conducted his final 6 months with us. But he possibly looked at it on the way that at that point we was on a road to nowhere.
My money is still on blackpool to go up. For a small club with not so much money they have a nice intelligent team. Look good at the back and its the attacking part that as we found out is strong. Buying Ince from Liverpool looks like one of the best buys having him one side and phillips on the other side with experience of kevin phillip or lualua up front. They have shown the type of players needed if you want to play 4-2-3-1 where we look like 4-5-1 when we play as we just dont have those attacking players, yet Though i do wonder how much of the maynard fee we receives depended on west ham getting promotion
John Fleck is also one to look at who is currently on loan at blackpool. Said for years we should try and sign him as he hasnt got any opportunities at rangers as Ally and him have had many fallings out. Seen as scotlands hottest young prospect and scotlands answer to wayne rooney but when the manager doesnt like you, you dont get games. With DM liking scottish players and rangers money problems maybe he might be looking at him
Maynard will simply never be a Premiership regular even if West Ham get there this year. He's a good enough player, but the step up from Championship to Premiership for a striker is a large one to take
I dont really care about him to be honest. I'm glad hes's gone I truly think he affected our shape and the way we played when he was here, we started to score more goals, more regularly when he left. He will find a club where he may have some more success I think, but it doesn't appear as if it will be with West Ham.
I never thought I'd say this but I was a big Nicky Maynard fan,I really rated him and wished he had stayed loyal to us,now I think it was good for us to move him on,we have scored more goals and our game play is more flexible and free without him,a major reason we have survived at this level,I still wish him all the best..
I would have wished him all the best too but he really did sour his time with us with the way he left.. Didn't even think he was all that to be honest, every dogs arse shines in the sun one day a year.
A really sad ending to a player who could have become a long-time fan favourite at Ashton Gate. I think he was sold down the line by his agent like so many others.
the mans history as far as im concerned, he made his own bed, now he can get on with it, damn sure his monthly wage slip will ease the pain.
Thats a weird one Banksy. Didn't know you studied dogs' arses on every day of the year to see which day the sun shines on them. I'd get some help (!) I think I hear strains of the old song "You're gonna reap just what you sow" wafting on the breeze, although I suspect Nicky hasn't seen his last Perfect Day just yet
I'm sure when Maynard and his agent look at his bank balance they will say everything has turned out all right. Some players are more interested in money than playing - sadly Nicky has turned into one of those - shame because he was a good lad
He's gone so not really any interest to me, I hope he gets his wish that his child grows up with a cockney accent......
For what its worth I think the whole Maynard thing was handled appaulingly. We should have put him for sale as soon as he refused to sign - and made him sit on the subs bench. He disrupted team morale and a bad apple soon turns the whole barrel. I don't blame him personally for wanting to better himself and WHU are certainly closer to the Prem than we are, but I will laugh out loud at him when the hammers visit the gate next season!
I hope they miss out on promotion tbh, he only went there because WHU at the time looked good for second place. Rediculous to have someone like Maynard when you have the Big Sam tactics of "pump it up to Cole". He won't feature if they get promoted and will prob end up back in the Championship with one of the relegated sides. Would have done much better with us here at the King Power although saying that, Beckford has improved since January, although not enough for most fans liking.
Despite our bickering on here at the time Leicester, his arrogance that he thought himself to good to go to you does not sit well with me either. we could have used that £6m to improve dramatically. Arrogant twat that very much bit the hand that fed him..
