Half the reason Adam Clayton gets such a hard time on this board and JA606 despite being extremely talented is the attitude problem. After he secured his first team place he just didn't look interested. You can have him though, I'm past caring if we keep our better players or not, not like it matters.
Disagree, he doesn't suck out the goals from the rest of the team because you can have the team more balanced and in turn concede less goals. You can always rely on him or atleast far more than Becchio and McCormack. And I disagree about having instinctive strikers as well, there is no way Becchio is an instinctive striker, McCormack I have learnt this season that he is better creating chances than putting them away and Somma is A) lazy, B) may never come back the same player and C) couldn't ever take his chance in the first team before when he wasn't injured I agree
Beckford would also fit perfectly into Warnock's idea of strong, big, fast players and playing hoof ball.
Except Becchio scored more league goals than Beckford this season and, as usual, got far more assists. Beckford is a hero from our time in League 1 and I'd happily have him back if the price was right but he's no better than what we currently have. When Becchio was the second striker who's main function was to feed Beckford he scored 15 goals a season, when he became the focus of the attack at a higher level he scored 20. I'm fairly sure Becchio could have scored a similar number of goals to Beckford in League 1 as the main striker.
Beckford's hold up play is non exsistent and his first touch is dreadful. If you dont play the ball along the floor to his feet or ahead of him to run onto he is useless. But he always gets goals He isnt slow but he isnt lightning quick. You need to remember you have only ever seen him in league 1. Matty Fryatt was fast in that league but not in this league.
Becchio was injured for a large chunk of the season then couldn't get in the team for a few games after he came back. He was quick enough to get away from Man Utd's defence fairly easily (also showcasing his lack of a first touch).
Why would we sell for 500K. As i pointed out on another thread. 500K is nothing to us we dont need to money like Pompey do where any half decent offer will be accepted Beckford will cost around 2M
Best of luck with that one mate! Only the Premier League can afford that sort of money, and he's blown his chance there.
He didnt do too bad for Everton. Ended up as their top scorer despite only being a bit part player I reckon Southampton might be interested. Nigel Adkins had Beckford at Scunthorpe and him and Billy Sharp had a pretty decent partnership
If he was that good at Everton, why isn't he still there? Think his problem is more with his head than his feet. Can't seem to fit in anywhere, and can't seem to understand that he's not God's answer to football.
