I really am, especially given the past 18-24 months of knuckledragging 'militants' doing their bit.

NOW THE PRESS MUST PROBE BILL MILLER.

THE fate of Rangers now lies in then hands of the Scottish media.

And Rangers supporters must be hoping against hope that newspaper and broadcast reporters perform with more professionalism, more of a sceptical eye, more vigilance and much more due diligence than they did this time last year.

Craig Whyte duped more than David Murray. He led the Press a not-so-merry dance.

This time around journalists must take nothing – and I do mean NOTHING – on trust from Bill Miller, anyone associated with him, anyone who has ever been linked with him or anyone who is working for him, be it as spin doctors, lawyers or accountants.

It is what ALL newspapers in Scotland MUST do to restore their tarnished reputation, battered and bruised after its failure – with ONE notable exception and another worth a mention in dispatches – over the Craig Whyte takeover at Ibrox which reduced Rangers to rubble.

The notable exception is the resurgent Daily Record where Keith Jackson and Jim Traynor led the way in exposing the conman Craig Whyte. They started the whole process which brought the trickster and the huckster down.

The mention in dispatches is for the Daily Telegraph and Ewing Grahame. On the day conman Whyte duped David Murray, he uncovered the fact that Whyte had been banned from being a director.

That was in May.

By the close season I know there was a feeling inside the Record, led by Jackson, that there was something not quite right about Whyte. Cue the first story about the Ticketus deal, which Jacko wrote in July.

It was denied by Whyte and the then editor of the Record, the now gone and not missed Bruce Waddell – a neighbour and pal of David Murray - didn’t merely back off, he went into a full flight panic stricken retreat. It was not a pretty sight.

By January, Traynor had taken up the cudgels and used hard evidence – emails etc – to produce the story about Ticketus which started Whyte’s accelerated fall from power.

Now Rangers supporters must rely on the Record riding to the rescue again. Only this time more quickly. And now that David Murray’s mate, Bruce Waddell is no longer lounging in the editor’s chair, the chances of the resurgent Record uncovering any hidden secrets about Bill Miller are better than they were when Whyte waltzed in a year ago.

Of course there will be Rangers supporters who will take any criticism of Miller as an attack on Rangers.

It is NOT.

In fact, it is exactly the OPPOSITE!

Rangers is a fine and venerable Scottish institution. It is the duty of the Scottish media to closely examine the background of anyone who seeks to gain control of it

If the press pack had been more alert, more sceptical, more vigilant, indeed more professional, this time last year, Whyte would never have been allowed to get away with the demolition job he carried out on the Ibrox club.

But the resurgent Record did rise to the challenge to expose Whyte as a conman, and that’s why I believe it is the best bet for Rangers supporters to pin their faith in.

The Sun was still giving house room to Whyte’s downright lies AFTER the Record had exposed his Ticketus deal. There is nothing to suggest they will be more questioning when it comes to Bill Miller.

That observation is not aimed at their reporting team, which is first class, but rather at the senior executives there who are not a patch on the old guard.

Actually, the Sun has appeared to jump on every bandwagon that has passed, from the now almost forgotten New Yorkers, to the Chicago Mob of Jon Pritchett and Andrew Ellis, then Brian Kennedy, not forgetting Wullie Ng. Remember him?

Have I forgotten anyone? Oh, yes! Paul Murray and the True Blue Knights. The actual bluenoses! The Sun does not seem to have been too keen on them, though there was a softening of their attitude when Brian Kennedy joined their ranks.

Now, if the Sun find out that Bill Miller’s wife-mistress-girlfriend has big boobs? Well that will be that. Cue saucy pictures of the lady with cheeky headlines. Of proper investigative reporting there will be not a sign. Reporters at the Sun, it appears, are not allowed to do their jobs.

As for the Scottish Daily Mail? Well, in the unlikely event of John Greechan and/or Stephen McGowan uncovering anything untoward about Bill Miller they’ll probably keep it a secret, for fear of offending anyone.

Unless, that is, those Scottish Daily Mail muppets get instructions from their puppet masters in London to ensure the sports pages of the Scottish Daily Mail match up to the tone and tenor of the rest of the paper in Scotland and throughout the rest of Britain.

There is already the whiff of scandal in Bill Miller’s background. The Daily Record carried a story as soon as his name surfaced, connecting him to all sorts of skullduggery, including FRAUD. On a big scale.

By last month, Bill Miller’s PEOPLE were explaining all that dodgy dealing away as a cross between a misunderstanding and someone else’s fault. You know? A big boy done it and an away.

I do hope Bill Miller’s PEOPLE are not the same PEOPLE, or the same sort of PEOPLE, as the Craig Whyte PEOPLE who claimed the conman was a billionaire. But there is a suspicion, whoever they are, they are singing from the same songsheet.

The financial mismanagement and FRAUD linked to Bill Miller’s name is as good a starting point as any for the Scottish press back. Or at least for the Daily Record and the Daily Telegraph.

Courts records in the places in the USA where the actions against Bill Miller were raised. Contacting those who raised the actions through stringers in America. Access to newspaper reports in the States where Bill Miller has operated in All are fairly basic reporting tools.

And those reporting tools are all that stand between Rangers, a venerable Scottish institution, being handed over to someone who may very well prove to be just as much of a wrong ‘un as Craig Whyte turned out to be.

BBC ATTACKED BY RANGERS ON TWO FRONTS

WHEN Rangers supporters gather in their hundreds outside Pacific Quay on Saturday, the luvvies and know alls inside the BBC Scotland HQ will no doubt sneeringly laugh off the protest with snooty disdain.

That’s the way they are.

They will not find it quite so funny when the scene switches to London and Craig Whyte puts BBC bosses in the dock at the Old Bailey.

If the gaping holes in the BBC Scotland programme, Rangers - The Inside Story, which was so unprofessional, are so obvious to these old journalistic eyes, then we can be sure forensic legal examination by libel specialists, Carter Ruck will reveal even more questions the Beeb will find it hard to answer.

No wonder Rangers owner Craig Whyte, and the club’s supporters have decided they have had enough of the blatantly biased Beeb.

For Whyte, that means banning them, plus a trip to the Bailey and an attempt to hurt BBC Scotland where it hurts, and also force it to conform to its obligation to report fairly.

For the fans it means exercising their right of free speech. Vanguard Bears have organised Saturday’s protest and will be joined by the Union Bears, the Blue Order and the Rangers Assembly.

It is understood Whyte is aware of the protest.

He and Carter Ruck, though, are more aware of the serious nature of some questions which BBC Scotland and the presenter of the controversial programme, Mark Daly, did not ask on it, but which they will have to answer, on oath, in the witness box at the Bailey.

For instance, when Daly interviewed Robert Burns, the Head of Investigations of the UK Insolvency Service , Burns solemnly declared that he had investigated Whyte, and that Whyte had broken the law. Whyte, according to Burns, had committed a criminal offence, punishable by the sentence of two years in prison.

Burns then did add that clearly there would have had to have been a criminal investigation, and a trial.

Now, as old hack, I waited for the next question from Daly. It never came. He did not ask Burns to explain why, if his investigation had uncovered a crime, no criminal investigation ,and no prosecution followed?

Did Burns pass the result of his investigation into Whyte to the Crown Prosecution Service, and if he did, why did they decline to prosecute?

Was the Director of Public Prosecutions involved? And if not, why not?

There are three courses of action available to the Crown Prosecution Service when presented with evidence. They can decline to prosecute because the evidence is insufficient, or because they do not believe it is in the public interest, or they can prosecute and test the evidence in court, in front of a jury.

The law in Britain does not allow anyone to go on television and blacken a man’s name by saying he committed a crime for which he could have been jailed for two years, without a prosecution having taken place, the evidence tested and the accused found guilty by twelve – fifteen in Scotland – of their peers.

But Robert Burns the Head of Investigations of the UK Insolvency Service, appeared to say just that. Even with his caveat. And in an appalling journalistic lapse, BBC Scotland’s Mark Daly did not challenge the statement. I have called it a journalistic lapse, for any other explanation is too horrible for this old hack to consider.

That is just one example of why BBC Scotland is heading for the dock at the Old Bailey. And why anything up to a thousand bluenoses on their way to Ibrox on Saturday, will stop off at Pacific Quay to stage their protest..

The most horrifying thing available to his puny mind was a Celtic fan who didn't like Rangers trying to find stuff out about Craig Whyte - so paranoid is the auld **** that he refuses to admit he was 100% wrong and Daly's programme was on the money.

Now that it has been proven that Whyte was a shady shady bastard, Leggo now moans that the media didn't do enough to alert Rangers fans - at the time, he supported Whyte's boycott, wanted him to sue everybody and "angry bears" to pickett the BBC offices.

It must be a strange ol' life with a misplaced superiority complex and a set of blinkers Amberleigh House would struggle to wear.

I wish Rangers would disappear for every ****stain like this your forced to converse with in work, down the pub etc - it was your own fault. The most culpable are now the accusers.
