    I agree with this. There are many great players like Cantona, Henry, Ronaldo etc. but if it is based on 20 years of football it should go to a player who consistently performed for many, many years.

    People are confusing the issue with players that have been great for 2-3 seasons. If the question was "Which player had the best single season in the last 20 years" then you would get the Ronaldo/Henry/Cantona arguments which would be more valid.

    Well yes but there are only a couple who have played in the PL for 20 years never mind consistantly!

    I tend to agree with Gary McAllister (amongst others) on this one;

    What player that has graced the Barclays Premier League in the past 20 years stands out for you and why?

    "I think that there have been some outstanding players, especially some foreign players who have come in like Eric Cantona. Obviously he didn't quite have the same impact at Leeds as he did at Manchester United. Then there was Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp... but there is only one player for me, and that's Paul Scholes.
    I can remember watching a FA Youth Cup tie at Leeds in which a little ginger-haired guy stuck out like a sore thumb. I heard how he'd had a couple of training sessions with the reserves at Manchester United, and everyone looked at each other and said 'he shouldn't be with us at youth level'. Within a week he was training with the first team".

    and Nani;

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...s-Manchester-United-s-Nani-article676877.html

    Paul Scholes has been hailed as better than Cristiano Ronaldo by Nani.

    Nani is gushing in his praise of Scholes and claims his Manchester United team-mate is the best midfielder he has ever seen.

    Scholes is set to return to action on Saturday against Birmingham following his recovery from a groin injury and Nani says no-one can get near him in training.

    "He's the best midfielder I've ever seen," he said. "He can pass, score goals with his left, right and his head. He can do anything. And he can beat a player too, plus he loves to nutmeg you. He's unbelievable.

    "Scholesy is just incredible and it's a privilege to be in the same squad.

    "I said to him the other day in training that he should have stayed at home because he was playing alone. What I meant is that he makes a pass to one wing, goes to support and gets the ball. Then he makes a pass to the other wing, goes to support and gets the ball again. All the time he's in control of the play.

    "The other team don't get near the ball, even in training. They are playing just against him."

    So many to choose from, the fact Giggs would only be top 10 is telling us just how good the rest must be.

    It has to be Giggs or Scholes, im not being biased here, they've been in the league since the start, one of them are the once who deserves to win it because Giggs has won more premier league medals then anyone or even Shearer for being the top scorer in the league. or if its in the way you guys are talking then it has to be Ronaldo, you guys are forgetting him then, he used to destroy defender's, he made teams fear, player's used to be scared of playing against Ronaldo
