Not criticizing anyone's taste, That would be rude, ignorant and pointless, just a bit surprised at how consistently the metal/ hard rock genre seems to be favored. I love Zep by the way, a proper, loud, blues band. Just struggle a bit when they get into Tolkein territory. Was very lucky to see them at the O2 for the Atlantic records blokes memorial reunion. Great to see the kids jaws drop when they realized how loud and messy these old geezers were. John Paul Jones also involved in a nasty little band called Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl from Nirvana/ Foo Fighters. Worth a listen, my rockin friends. I like a load of stuff, but core tastes were defined by Thames delta r'n'b - the Feelgoods - and 76-77 punk, ska and reggae. All disposable stuff, but heavy on attitude. The Sound (with Adrian Borland on vocals) were the most under-estimated band in my opinion. All time favourites are JoyDivision/New Order. Probably nowhere near as technically gifted as a lot of the people you are mentioning but they did it for me!
Im not entirelly stucked in 70's. I like also Nirvana ,Alice in Chains,Oasis ,Dire Straits and Joe Bonamassa

I saw Queen at the NEC in the mid eighties and they were unbelievably good!! One of the best live bands ever!! (Remember Live Aid?!!).
