thats like saying you don't rate rooney as a footballer cos he cheats on his missus with grannies or you don't rate maradona cos he snorted coke. personally, i don't rate football pundits based on their personal issues. i don't like stan as a bloke but he talks a huge amount of sense about football.

Nobody is saying that he is a brilliant pundit, BUT if somebody asks the only footballer to score a hat trick in a world cup his opinions on another striker then i do think his opinion should be noted and not just dismissed because you don't agree with them!

ok, nothing wrong with him expressing his view about it! people SHOULD listen to what he says - doesn't mean he knows what he is talking about though. no doubt you'll dismiss martin peters' view that holt SHOULD go. is his view invalid because he only scored once, not three times? everyone is going to have a differing view on things but as punditry goes, geoff hurst is not particularly well admired. amazing achievement in the game but it doesn't actually mean he knows diddly about the game.

I personally think there are strong arguements for both sides, I must admit to being in the Holt shouldn't go because i believe we have a new manager who should be looking towards the next world cup and building a squad and taking these euro championship as an experience for the world cup.

perfectly rational view guru. can totally understand why people believe thats the way forward. personally, i don't see the point of qualifying for a tournament if we aren't going to give ourselves the best chance of winning it. i also believe england will perform better with players who are on form rather than past-it pros who have done nothing exceptional for england in the past or youngsters who aren't ready for most of their clubs let alone international football <ok>

<laugh> lino got it wrong - it happens sometimes, usually against england to be fair! goal stood, therefore its a valid goal, no cheating involved, and the hattrick stands. refs decision stands! doesn't mean it crossed the line though... <laugh>

To be fair - Yes. Even I was getting bored of it all if I'm honest, but it was starting to get late and they seemed to keep going. Couldn't resist I guess.<whistle>

Regarding the Holty for England thing, someone said earlier they were worried we'd sell him on if he performed well. Taking his age into consideration I doubt anyone would offer us enough to make it worth our while. If he was still mid-late 20's then yeah, we could find ourselves in a struggle to keep him. But given he would be halfway towards 32 by the time the next season starts I doubt we could command a decent enough fee for him.

As some stats would suggest he does deserve a crack if England really are short on strikers. Just got to see what Roy thinks of him I guess.....?

Oh ok, I'd also rather have strikers that want to better themselves like playing for the elite clubs in this country or abroad rather than being a big (pardon the pun) fish in a little pond!
