Well it was a dodgy hat trick, never over the line, so don't count it myself.

YES it was!!! There is NO doubt about it. ENGLAND 4-2 GERMANY!!!!! What's not to celebrate.
We are never going to win it again, UNLESS...............Grant Holt plays and scores a "dodgy" hat trick, would you be happy with that??????

to be fair, just cos hurst scored a hattrick in a world cup final doesn't make him a good judge of players. equally, someone like arsene wenger was never a gifted footballer but can spot a decent player a mile away (most of the time!).

seeing as he himself was a 'late-comer' and not deemed first choice but preferred because he fitted the team better than greaves, despite not being widely renowned as being anywhere near as good a striker, you'd think he should appreciate more than most why holt should at least be given a chance in upcoming friendlies.

oh, and it definitely didn't cross the line in 66 but seeing as i wasn't around to actually appreciate us winning the bloody thing i think its probably easier to dismiss it that way and as delia says, we'll probably never win it again anyway so i suppose we should just ignore the fact it never crossed the line! lets face it, we've paid with many a dodgy decision since!! <laugh>

I was in the audience at a corporate event, and Hurst was the after dinner/motivational speaker. He was very motivational -- motivated me to get to the bar and silence the boring bollox he was coming out with.

Supers, Hurst was a squad player and Greaves got injured so then Hurst come in. Hurst scored a couple of goals played well and kept his place and the rest is history. so its hardly that he fitted the team better and that was the selection rational it was more enforced changes, nothing like the Holt situation.

As i said before, You deem that Hurst's opinions are rubbish, YET you lot ****ed over something that Stan Collymore said, and lets be honest his claim to fame is giving Ulrika a Right handed!

It ****ing well did cross the line, as every Red blooded English man will confirm!!! <doh> We WON the world cup ffs, we didn't cheat, the referee made a correct decision, game over! :bandit:
Agree that it doesn't make him a good judge at anything, but what qualifies any of us???? I actually disagreed with him on the subject, but he will be my all time footballing hero, and nothing anyone can write or say will change my mind, unless.....................................Holty does the same thing!!

well you may very well be right about greaves - i'm only going on what i've read as it was many moons before i was born. as for collymore, he is about as good a pundit as there is at the moment - geoff hurst is not. therefore, its perfectly valid to listen to his views before those of hurst's. its like saying you'll listen to the views of garth crooks ahead of leroy rosenior cos he played in more cup finals. personally, i find it bloody hilarious that all the ipswich fans feel so passionately that grant holt shouldn't get called up. can't say i'd have ever felt quite as bothered if it were the other way round. he really does wind you lot up, doesn't he. i mean, imagine a local ipswich newspaper having to write an article proclaiming why a norwich player shouldn't get called up... oh, you don't have to. they are that desperate <ok>

You forget ILD, Supers opinion is finally, I don't even know why FIFA has a debate over goal line technology, I reckon in any goal disputes just give supers a ring for the finally answer!

seriously, anyone who thinks that ball crossed the whole of the line is blind. they've done huge amounts of research into it (what a waste of time) and proved it didn't fully cross the line. i mean, i don't care and i'm glad we won the world cup - we may well have done without that goal anyway, but come on - there's seeing things and then there's SEEING things!!

Not even going to bother to read any of it, as I DO trust Geoff Hursts views ahead of yours. He is a World Cup winner after all! <ok>

Superman, this started as a bit of light hearted banter with Longsight, try and keep it the same. <ok>

I presume there is documented proof of Collymore being the best pundit?............................. Oh, yes in your opinion. I think that Geoff Hurst should know a decent striker when he sees one.

If the ball HADN'T Crossed the line then why didn't Roger Hunt who was following up make sure?? He was a yard away and he was convinced it had and that's why he turned away in celebration! That's good enough for me! <ok>

yes, my opinion, but its an opinion that is held by many more people than those who think geoff hurst is a great pundit. i've said before, you don't need to be a great player to spot a great player. its often said that great players don't make great managers after all...

Too true JWM! I bet if it was Holt in that situation the ball according to certain people would be a foot over!
