It shows that the Murdoch "Empire" has learned nothing from the hacking scandal. It is murky and sleazy because it reflects the morals, or rather the lack of them of its owner. I am never suprised by the depths which Murdochs papers plumb, only by the number of people who still buy them. Boycott all of his papers and SKY say I!

But millions of people think it's funny; so it must be. Mustn't it?

The media are already against him because he's not Redknapp.

Sorry guys, but it was pretty funny.

You see, the joke is, that's how he actually talks <ok>

It's fine when it's Johnnathon "W"oss, but when it's the new England boss, people find the need to be offended?

Commedians joke about things all the time - Rape, murder, poverty, sexism, homophobia, ect, and nobody (bar the very prudish) bat an eye lid. If it's not your humour, then fair enough, but to completely destroy and question the morals of those that do is in itself very laughable.

There's a hell of a difference between laughing "with" someone and laughing "at" them. One is cruel and spiteful - it is intended to denigrate and hurt.

Guess we shall have to agree to disagree on this one I'm afraid <ok>

It's no different to fans (both home and away) chanting that Appleton looks like Voldermort - it's just a fact. Woy talks with a speech inpedament, just like Wossy, why shouldn't it be satiracly mentioned?

As I stated, many comdeians "take the piss" out of a number of different aspects of a persons being - age, race, sexuality, gingerism... It all gets lampooned, and the important question is, where do you draw the line if this is deemed "unacceptable"?

Finally, I'll leave you with this. How many times have you; or someone you know (usually me on here to be fair), refered to Redknob as "Ol' Twitchy".

Very well said - I think it is absolutely disgraceful & tells us all we need to know about this rag
Someone has posted that the Sun has learned nothing & they are totally correct.
What,s the next step - mock the physically disabled?
I am glad the FA have publicly expressed their feelings

there is a big difference between Jonathon Ross who deliberately trades on his speech impediment, and Roy Hodgson who definitely doesn't. The Sun wanted Redknap, and has started to undermine Hodgson before he's had a day in the job. There was some idiot on five live yesterday saying it has been a common "joke" in football that Hodgson was known as "Woy". what rubbish, the man is universally respected for his past achievements and the calm measured way in which he responds to the media. he had a torrid time at Liverpool, but that was their problem and nothing to do with his ability. In all his years in the game there he has always conducted himself with the utmost integrity and is a worthy england manager. For the first time in many a year we have a manager who has managed at the highest level, has managed at international level, has had success, is respected, has no hint of scandal, who understands that as England manager standards of behaviour are expected, and CAN SPEAK ENGLISH and communicate with the players. Who cares if he has a slight issue with the letter "R" Would the SUN have taken the micky if the new manager had been a muslim, a homosexual or of ethnic descent?? Would they have found that amusing and worthy of a front page headline?

I don't think it is worth getting too hot under the collar about, frankly. Why would we be surprised if the Sun newspaper appeals to the lowest common denominator? They know their demographic well enough, and I guess anyone who found that hilariously funny now knows it too.;)

To be honest, I have never ever picked up that he has a speech impediment - so it cannot be that much of an impediment can it? It's one thing to refer to him in coverstaion as 'Woy' but to make a joke headline about it on the day after his appointment is in very poor taste but only to be expected from the paper than produced 'Turnip Head' and 'Gotcha'.

I'm not really offended by what that rag prints and I'm sure Roy won't be worried either. The good thing is I think a lot of the public have recently woken up to the fact that the tabloid press is not big or clever. Hopefully most of the concerns about Hodgson not being the media choice will be unfounded as I don't find most of their views very credible any more.

I find some Tabloid headlines amusing and often the playing with words is almost borderline 'clever', but this particular one gets a definite thumbs down from me. :emoticon-0149-no:

What is acceptable as "funny" nowadays ?

If you were to say that "Rape, murder, poverty, sexism, homophobia, represented a normal night out in Southampton", would that be considered amusing ?

The answer is probably NO - unless of course you lived in another city that had a huge rivalry with Southampton, then it might raise a slight titter........<whistle>:

The Sun once came up with the, frankly, genius headline "Super Caley go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious" when Inverness Caledonian Thistie beat Celtic 3-1, but the headline they came up with for this story was just...dreadful.
