KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (3786.KU) said Wednesday Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun of AirAsia Bhd (5099.KU) have resigned from the flag carrier's board of directors. They were appointed as independent, non-executive directors in conjunction with a share swap agreement between major shareholders of the two airlines in August last year. Under the agreement, Malaysian Airline shareholder Khazanah Nasional Bhd. was to get a 10% stake in AirAsia, while AirAsia's major shareholder, Tune Air Sdn. Bhd., was to get a 20.5% stake in Malaysian Air. Earlier in the day, a person familiar with the situation said shareholders of Malaysian Airline and low-cost carrier AirAsia have decided to cancel the share-swap agreement amid resistance from employee unions at the state-owned airline. My first take - won't make much difference - TF's a non-exec director and is being pushed off the board under pressure from the unions - he's not leaving under a cloud according to the above report. He just has one less hat to wear.
Hopefully the next one will be stuck on straight. I hope we get our kits sorted next year as they are a joke at the moment.
Think Malaysia is a basket case, like most state sponsored airlines. He makes his cash on Air Asia and Tunes hotels. And spends it on us and Caterham
