Indeed, Captain. And he wasn't known as Ray "theCrab" Wilkins for nothing. Quite like him though.

But that's a game where Welbeck didn't play, and Rooney looked to be missing him. This may not disprove your point about Welbeck and Rooney being too similar, but it certainly doesn't back it up. It does back up the argument that Rooney isn't suited as a lone striker, but that wasn't what we were disputing.

Apologies Cappy, it's been a long day already, what with my 'phantom' degree and all. There was a game recently, think it was against Wigan where both of them played, and things just weren't working for them up front, you could hear the fans wanting Hernandez brought on, whether or not this was because they just wanted a change, or to specifically remove Welbeck from the team though remains to be seen.

I thik this is absolutely brilliant for Ray. What a true gent and amazing man to have at Fulham. This is a real compliment and I wish him all the best. I think the Hodgson/Lewington partnership would be a good one for England. well done Ray, thoroughly deserved.

If ray goes, and it will i presume be on a permanent basis,I wish him well, a deserved appointment, and
as a club I dont see the need to a recruit from outside.
A wonderful opportunity to blood Danny into the management side of FFC.

If Ray takes the job I doubt it means he'll leave Fulham, as has been said. Kit Symons is part of the Wales setup and he's still with us.

It's possible, but it depends what role Roy wants him for. The Welsh FA don't have as big a budget as the FA, so that may come into it. Sven and Fabio's respective right-hand-men shared the task of getting to lots of premier league games to watch England players. If Roy wants someone to do that so that the coaching team can cover more ground, they may want him to go full time with England. As others have said, I'll be delighted if he stays with us and does England part time, and delighted for Ray if he leaves us to take up this opportunity.

I'd just finished the previous post, then heard on the radio that Fulham are denying having received any approach for Ray Lewington. Hmmmm, not sure what to make of that. I still wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

It would be a little strange. Ray didn't go with Roy to Liverpool or WBA, so...

It's official. Dunno what that radio feature I mentioned before was all about. http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2012/May/LewingtonAnnouncement.aspx

As for Roy not taking Ray with him to Liverpool or West Brom, Roy tends to happily work with what he inherits at teams rather than bringing a regular entourage with him, like Hughes or Jol. As Capello had some of his regulars alongside him, there was a vacancy to be filled for England which wasn't necessarily the case at Liverpool or West Brom. Clearly, Roy knows a good coach when he sees one, so he's come back for Ray. Now if England fail we can blame the overpaid ego brigade, and if England do well, it's all down to the Fulham connection!

Well, England have never won a World Cup without a Fulham player on the pitch so perhaps this will extend to the coaching staff on the bench as well.

Maybe Briggs or Stockdale should get a call up, just to be on the safe side.

Hats off to Ray, he's earned this!

Also not surprised to see Roy going out of his way to thank Fulham. Ever the gent.

Do we know if this means Ray has left the club completely?

Not yet. Big Mart has said it's just for the Euros and if it was permanent 'that would be a different conversation'. I can't see Fulham standing in his way, though, particularly since Ray's no longer immediately involved with the first team.
