Absolutely disgraceful piece of journalism today in the Sun. I find myself incensed by this mocking and hope it really backfires on such a useless tabloid. It was like they'd insulted a member of my family. I'm really pleased that Roy has received such great support since this came out. I for one was delighted he was appointed manager, I really believe he will do well given time. He took us from the edge of relegation to a Euro final in 2 years, a 7th and 12th finish and made us very difficult team to beat in the process. I think this is a great appointment from the FA, he's English, coached national teams in the past and has a good track record in Europe too. I think his style of management will be just what the national team need and as was proved with our run in Europe, he is tactically excellent in one off, important games - like every England game is. Just for the record I don't read the Sun, just heard it being discussed on Radio 2! Go on Roy, every Fulham fan is right behind you.
Was going to post something similar. I follow Richard Osman on Twitter (FFC and Pointless, what's not to love) and he retweeted the front cover this morning, so here it is for ya'll. http://twitpic.com/9g5ru5
I have no great regard for the Sun, so I certainly wouldn't want to set myself up as an apologist for them. Nevertheless, many of us make jokes (affectionate ones) about his vocal mannerisms, and I suspect that nobody minds when the Sun and many others in the media make jokes about 'Jonathan Woss'. This is the same deal. Sadly, when the media turn on Roy (as they surely will), I'm sure the Rs and Ws thing will feature heavily in their attacks - 'Wesign' etc - but for now I'm not sure they are doing anything all that bad. That said, I've not bothered reading their articles, if they are pushing the 'how dare he take the job and not be Harry Redknapp' line, then that's a different matter.
The Sun is a Murdoch rag fit only to line the bottom of a bird cage, and I say that as a former journeyman newspaper reporter. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's shocking what passes for journalism in the UK. I'd blame the media outlets, but it's clear they're only feeding what the public wants - so go figure. I realize the sports section isn't the same as the news section of any given paper. And, I realize, sports coverage will by it's very nature have a bit of opinion in it. But when did opnion become a substitute for fact?
It's the principle Captain. Roy has just landed the job of his dreams and should be congratulated on his appointment, instead The Sun choose the poke fun at a speech impediment. It would be the same if Harry got the job and The Sun posted 'Twitchy Gets Dream Job'
El Capitano. I understand your point. I have never read the Sun in my life. Although when doing my paper round, some 30 years ago, I'd always have a sneaky peak at page 3 before pushing it through the letter box, that's the newspaper through the letter box for those sniggering guffaw! My point was, albeit not conveyed very eloquently, was that he's been in the job a few hours and they go for the juggular, the negative. They're clearly put out that their man Arry didn't get the job and are readying themsleves for the 'we told you so' comment in a few years. I hope they don't get the satisfaction of doing so. They should be behind him 100% IMO, he's English, knowledgable and the best man for the job. I also felt as though they'd insulted my own dad, for some strange reason.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17928426 Fair play to the FA (never thought I'd say that) for sticking up for him. It may only be a drop in the ocean of poor taste that is The Sun, but there we are.
It's not been a popular decision with The Sun or Sky Sports, both are related to Redknapp. Am I right in thinking he has done advertisements for the two? I would say he wrote a column but the evidence presented during his trial would suggest otherwise.
I feel slightly awkward with the whole situation. My 606 name is not intended to take the Mick in the way that the sun have done, but their comments are intentionally 'bullying' in my opinion. Should I change it so as not to sound like a hypocrite?
Not at all mate. This a Fulham Board; we understand the passion, indeed respect behind it as I'm sure Uncle Woy did when we serenaded him. The Sun is simply a self ingratiating and immature bunch who don't like it when they are wrong. Unfortunately they sell a lot of papers - not in Liverpool of course.
WDWW. There is a world of difference between the sentiment of "Wot The Sun Sez" and your name. You keep it !
Absolutely keep it wdww. There's a difference in tone and sentiment. The Sun aim to ridicule and mock. Good to see you on the board again fella.
Agree with all the above, WDWW. We know where you are coming from with that name, and as others have said, it's good to see you back here.
I complained to the PCC, primarily because I dislike The Sun. They sent me a very nice response, referencing the 1500 complaints they had had and directing me to the FA statement. They also stated that since Roy has not directly complained, they don't believe it necessary to proceed further but assured me they would if public sentiment grew. I just complained because I can't stand The Sun. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the response I received; well played, Press Complaints Commission.
I stopped buying the Sun in the 1980's when they wrote something about Princess Diana. I can't even remember what it was they wrote now but decided then not to buy it again. I don't think I am missing anything.
