Hmmm, Wasn't expecting that. He's been solid for the most part of the season, and he's had some praise, but not in the TOTY lol!

If its based on Premier League Index then its just Maths...He's statistically the best RB in the country!

To an extent I agree with him being the best RB this season. He's played every game, played well in most of them, made a lot of last ditch blocks on the line.

Richards is a better RB but he's been in and out of the team this season. Simmo has played a lot more.

Can't beat statistics that ignore the actual important bits of a defenders job, i.e. marking, positioning and decision making. Oh well, at least he's run a long way...

I'd rather have one-legged, half blind, plucked pigeon in my back 4 than Martin Skrtel.

To be honest, in most of his games, the only fault of his that I can really pick out is that he sometimes get out muscled too easily, but that's because he's, for some reason, been given the job of marking a stronger opponent.

His tackling is good, he shows good reading of the game with interceptions, and he's intelligent at times when he lets the ball fly over his head for a goal kick instead of heading it away.

He's also good decent strength for a 5ft 8 bloke and isn't a push over. He can stay on his feel and marshal and ball out quite well.

Normally when he was a really bad game where he's constantly backing off or getting caught out it's when the whole team are having a shocker really. Like in the Wigan, Fulham and Spurs games

Click my blog post, if 'too weak' is the only fault you can see you aren't watching him enough. Amusingly I even mention your last paragraph...

Can we swap that Danny Simpson for the kid who plays on the right of our backfour?

Watched him in pretty much every game he's played for us actually.

He used to back off far too much and get caught out a lot out of position, but he's definitely improved and doesn't do it nearly as often. To be honest, the only games I've noticed him as a weakness in the team is the games where the team have played poorly.

He's a solid enough RB, and I hope we keep him as part of the sqaud. And he's not "too weak". Sometimes he's left to mark strong opponents, and that's not his fault. The team should know who they're marking before the game, and if the team select Simpson to mark physically superior opponents, it's not Simmo's fault.

He's not a strong player, but he's not weak either.

You said that, not me. In fact I explicitly state he's physically decent.

Are you sure that that isn't one of those variations on the Team of the Year? Because last year EA did one of those, but for players who didnt get an In-form that year.

Hes an awful right back, who is often covered by Coloccini and even Williamson at times.

Credit where its due his goal line clearances have been very good but his positional sense and marking are atrocious and we really need a replacement next season if we want to continue to kick on.

Hes been done so many times this season in games I've lost count.

We should go for better, I agree, but I don't agree with the people that say we should get rid. He's a reliable enough RB that could play a good part in the squad.

If we sell him and go for someone better, we'll have more quality, but the same problem with depth.

Simpson is currently our most solid fullback, defensively, as shocking as that might sound to you. Santon definitely a much better all round player with more potential, but defensively, Santon needs to develop and Simmo is more tactically aware.

He's not an awful RB at all, he's played a good part in all the periods where our defense has been solid and kept clean sheets.

Sometimes when he gets caught out, it's because he's pushing high up the pitch because that's what he gets told to do! Santon is also far up the pitch quite often.

Simmo is not great, but not awful and I hope he stays, I just don't want him to be our first choice RB next season.

Statistics damn statistics. I think you all know my feelings on this kind of ****e. Football is not played by percentages and in books. Unless your Sam Allardyce. Sure look at them and use them to guide you, but your naked eye will always tell you more. No where near the best full back in the league this year but he has had a fantastic season for us and deserves fulsome praise.

Some don't like him and I think we have a better right back in Santon (just awesome last night), but I think you'd have to be very misguided to think he hasn't doen well this season.
