He'd be a fantastic addition, and be an "unknown"

I think he is probably top of my list for the summer. Young forward who has goals in him and has a very bright future, just what we need for next season.

<laugh> yeah, apparently, if we sign a load of unknowns we'll be fine! i'd rather we pick up some quality players, be them unknown or otherwise, and he ticks the right boxes for me! big, big fan of his and have wanted us to try and nab him for some time.

Well maybe we should pick up the Ipswich team, they're all unknowns, we'd win the league, oops forgot about the need for quality

I just wonder if within all the new influx of talented raw untried players that we might need a couple of players of proven quality as well. we have lacked a bit of compsure at times and a balance may be helpful for the overall benefit of the squad.

i think thats a good point. we've been linked to curtis davies - a player who i wasn't a fan of, but hearing from birmingham fans he seems to have turned his career around - he could be an option at the back.

money aside, we must be a more attractive option than Saints (no disrespect to them) right now.

Its a trusted method to have a leader, talisman, whatever you call them, at a club. I wonder who that might be though. We have players who lead by example of course but they aren't necessarily the calm player you mean. An Ian Crook type in midfield would do me.
If you were to take PL's normal criteria, Rodriguez looks to be a certainty. But don't rule out the Swans in the trnasfer market.

Can't remember the last time he didn't score when we plays them...good all round player in my opinion. With our success, many teams are quoting ourselves and Swansea as role models so we may have a battle on our hands to get the best quality from the championship and league one.

one thing in our favour for attracting players lower down, is the financial fair play regulations. all clubs outside the top flight are having to tighten their belts and take their wage caps to more reasonable levels. this means any of the top players outside the premier league may be forced into taking less money to stay - they certainly won't be getting bumper new deals. its an important summer for everyone in lower league football and i fully expect to see huge numbers of players who you'd expect to get deals at championship level either having to drop to leagues one or two, taking a massive wage drop in the process, or getting thrown on the scrap heap.

Surely with have a whole team full of Premier league experience with regards to leadership we have 3 players other than jolt who have been a club captain. R Bennett captained Grimsby at the age of 18.
Jay Rod would be a great addition to the team maybe see Chris going the other way. Would also be interested in scannell(sp?) at place.

Agree super but my point is that will saints and reading want to do the same...? Our model worked this season so will they take note and try to do the same. Last season we were the best prospect they probably were offered, just expecting that to be more difficult next season.

that genuinely wouldn't surprise me! its always a judgement call as to whether a player lower down could do it in the top flight but i've seen nothing from this lad to suggest he can't. he has the full package - but whether we can afford him is another matter. its getting to the stage where if we are to improve the team we may have to start spending more than £5m on a regular basis - that puts far more pressure on the manager to get each transfer right. personally i would have no problem with us spending that on rodriguez but i could totally understand why many fans would be sceptical. players like kevin doyle and shane long cost around £7m - its the going rate for top, top championship strikers

One of the things that puzzles me (many things do) is how the finances for being in the PL work. A few folk have said to me, that Norwich won't feel the full financial benefit until the 3rd season in the PL. In other words implying that we have to borrow heavily, I guess this is a consideration. Also, if you pay £8m for him, and other clubs are prepared to offer the same, the question then becomes how much does the fecker want?

to be fair, if you had a choice between everton or norwich, you'd probably go to everton anyway, but thats the problem we have - wages. of course the cap will be raised in the summer but i'd hazard a guess its either the lowest or 2nd lowest in the league. it considerably lower than many championship clubs! we are mainly going to be competing with the likes of swansea, saints and reading for the same sort of players - its important that we can compete with them or we'll miss out on players.

with regards the finances, people are taking into consideration our debt levels. we can't just pay our debt off in one chunk so it will take us three premier league seasons to cover it, or as i believe is the case, taking it to a pretty low level but not clearing it completely. that means we don't get all the premier league money - plus we don't even get the premier league money until the season is finished, so any money we spent in the last summer was before we had it in our bank account.
