Guthrie to start in the middle

    Pardew has gone with Guthrie in the middle, meaning Barton on the right, Gutierrez on the left and Nolan in the middle. I don't think he had much choice, Guthrie battles and has a point to prove, he played well against Sunderland in a battle of a game which this is bound to be, hopefully he will have a good game!

    Had to - Barton is fine on the right, wheras Guthrie is awful there.

    Guthrie has played decent games since Pardew took over so im confident he can do a job

    Could still be a 5 man midfield, Ranger wont start so I only want us to play one of our useless forwards rather than 2.

    would prefer us to play with 2 upfront albeit not with Ameobi and Lover man though

    Is Ireland starting? Think he might come on later as an "impact sub" along with ranger later on in the game. Thats if we are struggling to find the back of the net.

    I would prefer a 4-4-2 but if Lover and Shola are the only options then we might as well only play one of them IMO and have more service from midfield for the one who does play.

    Pardew has already said that he'll ease Ireland in but only if he's 100% fit as he hasn't played since the start of December.

    I agree mate Lover and Shola simply do not work can't see Pardew dropping either of them though. If we were going 5in the middle I would push Nolan in the hole even though he was ****e their earlier this season it would be the obvious choice

    What about Richardson?

    I know he's young and inexperienced but could he do a job for 20/25 minutes in the middle?

    If Ireland isnt ready and we want a 5 man midfield it might be the only option, that or:

    Jonas Barton Nolan Guthrie Ferguson

    Guthrie has to start in the middle, he's poor on the right but had a couple of decent games before he got injured.

    He seems decent in the role where he's used to - central midfield.

    He's **** on the right, but you can't really take anything away from him as that isn't where he's used to playing. Same reason why S Taylor sucked at right back.

    Is it Nolan who's suspended? Or Tiote? It's been so long since we played... whoever it was, I've forgotten who picked up a suspension. It wasn't both of them was it?

    I'd rather see Barton in the middle and Ranger on the right myself, he looked quite dangerous there in the Carling Cup. Failing play Richardson in the centre and Barton on the right. Not really a fan of Guthrie.

    Nolan just needs to get through this game and Villa then the slate is wiped clean for yellows though <ok>

    Thought Ireland was fit tomorrow, unless he's going to rest Nolan so he's available for the Villa game.
