I still watch it from time to time too, I have shown my children the game (Jo was only 3 when the game took place while Byron wasn't born). I remember at half time being in a pub singing you'll never walk alone with about 100 squaddies. my mate Jamie crying in to his beer and my cocky brother walking in to the pub with a grin on his face with an AC Milan shirt on. I then remember after the shoot out being carried from the bottom of North Hill in Colchester to the High Street (quite a distance) singing, chanting, having cars beep their horns... it was better then what i'd imagine it would be if England were to win the world cup again. One of the best nights of my life
I tend to watch the highlights of the build up games more often TBH such as Olympiakos and Juve and of course the Chelsea game.The atmosphere when Luis Garcia scored that goal................Fu*k me!!!!!!!!!!! And Clive Tyldesley saying " 6 minutes , 6, where did they come from" The Kop was f**kin incendiary that night
Sorry but I dont respect CL wins when you dont win your own league. Thats why any chelsea win this year will be just as hollow imo. You just cant say you are the champions of europe (i.e. best side in europe) unless you win your own league

Obviously I would be happy. You still win the cup. But it would of been a hollow victory which was the shadow of the times we have won the title recently
I got abused on the chelsea board for saying it as it is. I must admit it annoys me all this love for these fluke cl wins. Inter, barca, united, milan = will be remembered in history as true champions of europe because they also won their league and thus had to be regarded as the best side in the world. What if Arsenal were English champions and played teams that finished top 3 or 4 in their respective countries in the final of the CL and on the way to winning it? Would you be Champions of Europe without playing other countries Champions? The problem is the name of the competition.
Can't believe I'm about to say this.... I partly agree with you. I think it was better when it was just the champions but the competition certainly wasn't as good or, arguably, as hard to win either. I just think you need to word your original comment better
It doesnt matter how you qualify, only what you do the year you win it. If chelsea won the league last year it would of made this years cl win (if they win it) marginally more respectable. But I still dont count them as champions of europe when they cant even become champions of england. It is ridiculous. At the end of the day the CL is a cup although the 2 leg structure changes this slightly.
Man Utd were not English Champions when they entered the CL in the season they won the treble. Would you kindly go on their board and tell them their 99 treble doesn't count please.
No it counts because they won the title that year. It isnt ultra respectable because they werent champions but that is splitting hairs. They deserved both their recent CL wins because they won the title that same year.

It is a league with mroe than just league winners. It is NOT the old european cup any more. Perhaps the name Is a throwback and uefa not admitting what this actually is. It should just have been called a european league but they avoided that. The best sides in europe as distingushed by thier league representation (4 for us and 2 or 3 for others) play in a league. END OF. Sorry but thinking its hollow is rather pointless when your club built its stadium and team off the back of CL moeny when you won the league only a couple of times in the period... sorry but there you go. you simply cannot deny the logic. Our team took the 20-30mil per year just fine yeah? Thus I can now sate that you are jsut having a snipe at our CL win rather than putting any good point forward.
