I wish Roy the best of luck. I think he will fail badly though, someone said he may only be around for the euros and the next world.cup, well we wont be in the next world.cup if roynis in charge lol. Anyway, I dont have any expectations from England. My only hope is that no Liverpool players get injured and maybe the odd manc getting injured for a season or so hehe.
The press will be sharpening there knives as we speak. If the English press are against him, I'm for him.
First day in and Woy is already starting to build his future excuses. Calling for the players, fans and media to get behind him as manager that way if it goes belly up (and remember this is England we're talking about so its always going to end badly) he can blame the players and fans for never giving him the support he needed to be successful. Just like he did when he took over us, dont seem to remember him having to do this when taking over West Brom. Its almost like he knows the players and fans dont really want him. On a personal note I dont support Woy (mainly for his ineptitude with us) however I dont really care all that much who the FA appoint as it wont make much difference to the national team anyway.
I wish Roy all the best in his new role. Just like I wish Paul Konchesky all the best as England's new captain...
Has any England international player come out in support of him yet? They were tweeting en mass when Redknapp was reported to be the favourite, all in support of him getting job. Seems really quiet so far...speaks volumes what the players REALLY think of him, not what people are paid to think because of stupid PR media conferences/radio/newspapers/etc.
Jack Wilshire did on twitter earlier: Jack Wilshere ‏ @JackWilshere Reply Retweet Favorite · Open For England....good choice in my opinion! Good luck and I hope I can help him in some way in the future! #3Lions #England 1h Jack Wilshere ‏ @JackWilshere Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Not many have the experience that Roy Hodgson, proved he is a top manager at international level so don't see no reason why he can't do it I replied with "does that taste nice"
I'd be happy if he didn't, more rest for the new season. However, I find the situation with Glen Johnson quite interesting. He has been first choice for England but was one of the biggest clashes when Roy was at Liverpool... There aren't many others Roy can choose from that was at the club whilst he was. Gerrard, Johnson, Spearing, Shelvey, Flanagan, Robinson and Sterling. Lets face, it none of the latter five are anywhere near contention so it is just Gerrard and Johnson, both of which are considered strong candidates for the first team, never mind the squad. As I said, interesting... PS - Carragher won't come back again, nor do I want him to or expect him to be asked.
He may select Jones and Richards for the RB role if he doesnt want Glen Johnson in the team. Gerrard, well we dont have much in midfield tbh so he may get selected. Depends on how Roy feels towards the players. Hes a pro at the end of the day so if he needs to select them for the benefit of England I think he would, if he could find a way not to, he wont.
I think Richards and Walker should be the two right backs, and thats ignoring any possible conflict surrounding Glen Johnson. I think Jones will go because of his versatility but not as one of the recognised right backs. Not sure about Smalling, if he goes then maybe Walker won't...? IMO, thats a bad move.
Haha, Jones. He'll probably pick Richards and Johnson for RB, with Walker as the backup. Jones will be picked, but more as the utility squad member, much like Carragher and Phil Neville used to be picked previously I hope he doesn't take Gerrard, but he might see this as his last big international tournament and want to give it a last go.
Ok, for arguments sake, we take two players per one position. That means: RB - Richards and Walker (Possibly Johnson instead of one) LB - Cole and Baines (I think this is a dead cert) CB - Rio, Terry, Lescott & Cahill As much as I don't think Terry should be going because of the racism issue (should have sorted months ago), can you see us taking Jones and Smalling over two of the centre backs? I've not mentioned Jagielka. I think Jones will be taken as a utility man but not for a set defensive position.
Defensively jones is decent as cover for RB. He doesnt offer much going forwards though so depends who we are playing. The Gerrard situation depends on how Roy feels towards him I think. He may feel he cannot work with someone like Gerrard who doesnt play for the team only for those he likes ( looking at it from Roys perspective )
Smalling is a possibility due to the Fulham factor. Hes by no means a cert. Jones has the advantage of being able to play anywhere so I think he will go. Terry has a high chance of being dropped. Rio isnt the player he once was and he would not play with Terry. Cahill is a cert but hes the only one. Lescott, dont think hes very good at all and if he didnt go I wouldnt be surprised. Saying that If he did go I wouldnt be too surprised either. Cahill and Jagielka could be interesting though, something new and 2 players we could use for a while until the likes of Smalling and Jones are up to the level needed.
I mentioned Lescott and Cahill because they have been heavily involved recently. I personally can't see Rio and Terry not playing together, players don't have to get on to play in the same side look at Cole and Yorke (or was it Sheringham?). They will both want to play and will both be looking at it similarly to Gerrard in that it could be their last major international tournament, especially Rio. Can't say I'd be gutted if Lescott didn't go. I don't rate him either although he's had a pretty good season this year. IMO, Rio, Terry and Cahill will be on the plane as three of four centre backs.
You have to consider that Terry is disliked by many players now, not just the Ferdinands but others. Sure there were murours of other players not wanting him around the squad. Hes not a cert by any means yet. Saying that Rio could be the one who doesnt go but if thats the case and Rio doesnt go but Terry does, well I dont see it going down well. Cole and Teddy didnt get on very well, they also didnt play very ofter compared to Cole and Yorke.
If Terry doesn't go, will that create tension between Rio and Terry's Chelsea teammates...? I'm sure everyone will try to act professionally but still, there will be something there. As I said, this should have been dealt with months ago, it was ridiculous for Chelsea and the FA to request the hearing to be after the season (inc Euros) was over. Edit: of course you could also say that if Rio doesn't go then it could create tension between Terry and any of the Man Utd and/or Sunderland players that go.
