Hey just wondering who sanctioned the signing of marko Marin considering there hasn't been much clarity in this aspect in your club. Also as opposed to splurging on overhyped superstars do you think it's signals a more prudent approach in your transfer policy?
Don't know the answer to the first part of your question, but hope it is a more prudent approach. However with talk of Hulk etc, expect to see the cash splashed again.
I believe our long list of scouts watch over a large number of players constantly, hence the rumours that 'Chelsea are interested in' that link us to nearly every top and emerging player. I think this is broadly true as I'm sure nearly all the big clubs try to have them all on their radar. Their has been a realisation that a manager has only so many personal contacts and so much time to spend weighing up potential buys. Some managers are an exception as they employ their own personal scouts and use their own criteria to run the rule over players regarding team building. At Chelsea, for a while now, the brief appears to be for the scouts to trawl a broad net over players in all positions and maintain a watch on their progress. A Chelsea manager then may request a player for a certain position and may even suggest a name. The board then decide if they think the manager's opinion is valid and double check with the scouts for that certain player and if not him a player they have been watching who is similar. When the 'committee' agree a closer is sent out to seal the deal. It appears recruitment is a big part of the technical director's job ever since Peter Kenyon. This is now Michael Emenalo, who I think has the largest say in who gets brought.
Since he's been in the role we have bought.Luiz,Ramires,Mata,Torres,Cahill,Paizon,De Bruyne etc so he is doing a good job I would say. I know there has been the odd failure like Lukaku who I don't think will ever make it but other than him I don't think there have been any big money failures.
I realize he has time to develop but I just don't see anything for the coaches to work with.I would love to be wrong as he is Chelsea supporter to the core. Bamford from Forest looks a far better prospect imo.
Very interesting quotes from Marin on the Guardian today, RDM was instrumental in his choosing the club it seems, great news and hopefully a positive indication of our interim managers future http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/01/chelsea-marko-marin-roberto-di-matteo
Marin is the sort of player we should be going for. Young, has talent but not a superstar just yet. Hopefully, after being stung for both Sheva and Torres even Roman will realise marquee signings aren't the way to go.
Good lad! I like the sound of his attitude already in addition to the fact I've heard a fair bit about his footballing ability for the last couple of seasons. Is it just me or have all our recent signings been quite down to earth, quiet, unassuming 'just get on with it' decent types? Luiz, Ramires, Cahill, Mata etc... even Lukaku for what little we've seen of him. Nothing dirty, pretentious or egotistical about any of them really, and again Marin seems to be another in this mould.
De matteo deserves a chance irrespective of whether you.win the cl or not. Marins comments obviously show.the.respect.he commands. The likes of guardiola will leave at the faintest sign of success to.embark.on another challenge! De mateo is chelsea througb and.througb and.will provide much.needed stability.
It is great to see transfers that work better for the club (value), the clubs youth (age) and talent (improvement) Plus we are doing things early, if we had that approach the last few years we could have nabbed Ozil and Vidal instead of the likes of Meireles at the same price. Vidal would have been an excellent addition last year, left footed, strong, quick, good passer and scores goals form the defensive mid position. And hes been an instrumental clog for Juventus in their 'invincible' season Marin compared to Krasic (who we were also lookng at) seems to be less problematic and more team orientated rather than for himself Ramires - Mata - Marin behind a rejuvenated Torres looks mouthwatering On the Hulk note, apparently and I mean apparently we bid 35m pound for him but pSG trumped it by nearly 20m. If he wants to 'do a pastore' then carry on we could do without that kind of player
