Why do Leeds fans always seem to want to go back - Always wanting former players to return, Smith Bowyer etc - Leeds are a big club with a great history, I think you should be looking to the future with new players - Colin's got a good eye for emerging talent. Beckford frustrated many of you with his attitude when he was there before, just as he does at Leicester - You're welcome to him, but I wonder if he'd be willing to take the pay cut necessary to become a Leeds player again - I suspect not
Don't want him back personally, don't think he's good enough. But sounds like he don't like you lot much.
Well this entertaining little tale doesn't explain all the salutes he gives Leicester fans when they do chant his name - Now you may not want him back at Elland Rd, but you're in the minority among your peers. Trouble is they're all window shopping like little urchins in a Dickens novel with their noses pressed against the window, because Bates sure as hell can't afford him and he won't take a pay cut
There is no doubting Beckfords ability but he doesnt contribute enough to the team and his attitude and effort stink
Can't work out whether your trying to be insulting or not but either way your right. Most leeds fans would love to have Beckford but it just would never happen, transfer fee AND wages are too big an issue. What is being discussed is kinda pointless
Not convinces of the vaildity of all your comments - but to answer your question - Jermaine is a bit like a misbehaving child his behaviour towards the Leeds fans is twofold - I believe he is touched by their regard and appreciation and to that extent his acknowledgement is completely genuine - but it also gives him the opportunity, very much like an attention seeking child, to flag up to Pearson that he other people 'rate' him - it won't have been lost on NP. I don't think he has a long term future with us - and with detachment I can honestly say that I don't see him as a first choice Premiership striker -he lacks the basic technical skills for that IMHO - contrast his impact at Everton (or lack of it) with Nikica Jelavic. I believe his spiritual home is Leeds - because it is where his greatest achievements will always be.
Beckford can clear off. I pretty sure Nigel has had enough of him and will get rid http://m.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk...e-fans-made-me-feel-humble-beckford-1-4498931
You are making assumptions that we always want players back - most if not all Leeds fans agree we don't want Bowyer or Smith back. Rumours circulate and those players get debated because of the rumours not because fans want them back. You have to also consider the reason why many left, Leeds never sold them because they were past it, most never wanted to leave in the first place. Beckford I would take back, he is a goal scorer, he can do sweet fa for 88 minutes and grab you a goal at the death. If a manager wants a player who is going to chase down every pass and run his nuts off for the team then I agree, Beckford is not your man. If you want a team with a strong midfield to do the chasing and supply a few quality balls and a striker who will net you 20+ in a season then Beckford is ideal. With Beckford it is horses for courses, if a manager signs him and expects to have a player who will cover every blade of grass in his cause for the team effort then it stinks or a poor manager who has not done his homework.
Anyway if we want to know if Ken Bates does want Beckford back and he is just playing mind games to try and drive the price down whey not just ask Ken himself. He does have a account on here called Chelsea innit Ken are you there?
As we've seen on many occasions ex-players have a habit of scoring against their old clubs - so he may get a goal against us - that will count for nothing if we have already put 3 in the Leeds net - so I'm not too bothered. he is undoubtedly a goal scorer if given a chance in the box - but he is distinctly average in all other aspects of his game IMHO - and a swap for Snodgrass will be an absolute steal!
Beckford isn't high on my list of players I'd like to get rid of (probably about middle of the list), so I assume it's to cut his massive wage from our outgoings. This is fine, but we must get the better end of the deal - not like we're in debt or anything - so I hope there's a large transfer fee involved or Nige has a better replacement lined up. Can't see it being the former since this is Bates' Leeds we're talking about!
Bit dissapointed to be honest. Started to play some decent stuff of late and formed a good partnership with Nugent. Having said that, there are other players I would rather keep and his wages will have been an issue too (and might still be when it comes to negotiating a move away). For me, it'll ultimately depend on who we get to replace him.
