    Dempsey
    M'Vila
    Vertonghen

    Estimated cost: £40-50m

    They are realistic targets.

    Podolski-------RVP--------Walcott
    ------------Wilshere-----------
    --------Song--------M'Vila------
    Gibbs-------Verm-Kosc-----Sagna
    ------------Szczesny----------
Bench: Fabianski, Vertonghen, Santos, Arteta, Rosicky, Chamberlain, Dempsey

That would be my first choice team. Pretty awesome.
    Now look at each position:
Striker: RVP, Podolski, Dempsey, Afobe, Campbell (if he gets a permit)
Wings: Podolski, Walcott, Chamberlain, Gervinho, Dempsey, Miyaichi
AM: Wilshere, Rosicky, Chamberlain, Ramsey, Dempsey
CM: Song, M'Vila, Vertonghen, Coquelin, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere
    LB: Gibbs, Santos, Vermaelen
CB: Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, M'Vila, Vertonghen, Song
RB: Sagna, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Coquelin, Yennaris
    GK: Szczesny, Fabianksi, Martinez

That's crazy depth. It also offers huge tactical variance. If we entered next season with this team I'd happily keep Wenger as manager even if he insisted on conducting his business in a Gunnersaurus costume.

It's not as far fetched as it seems.

    Rosicky > Wilshire

To be honest, with a squad like that, who starts and who doesn't would be purely tactical. The players are all of high quality and are mostly interchangeable. I would imagine about 4-6 players would have reasonably long term injuries during the campaign so you wouldn't get the unsettled squad in terms of game time

I agree. It would be nice for arsene to rotate the squad a bit more and not play the same 11 every game <ok>

Ruined by including Dempsey; and by leaving Arteta out of the first 11.

Was just about to post on here if Arsenal sign a class defender and midfielder i think they will come 2nd next season, Vertonghen and M'vila would be quality for you and i really think you could put up a genuine title challenge

Would still like us to get a proper creative player. Jack has been out for ages and we do not yet know how he will return. Rosicky is good, but I feel we need someone younger and someone that can get goals from midfield.

Dempsey is a high class third choice striker whose versatility and drive could make a huge difference, off the bench, in most games.

I rate Arteta highly, and he would probably start a fair few games.

I think that having Rosicky, Chamberlain and Dempsey playing in that role would be sufficient. Don't forget that we could also play RVP there and push Podolski up front. The possibilities are mind boggling.

  10. Have we signed Podolski yet? Wouldnt it be 4 signings for that squad?

Sorry, I meant 3 further signings. Podolski is already sewn up and public.

  13. Didnt spot that today - thats great news!

As I have criticised Wenger for delaying signings, have to say this is a step in the right direction - very early indeed.

This also makes it a little less easy for RVP - he doesnt hold all the cards now and he has just seen us strengthen with a proven international goalscorer.

your forgetting Djourou. best 4th choice CB in the league.

because realistically, are we going to have 4 top CBs with 2 of them happy to sit on the bench all of the time? i doubt it. vertonghen is a fantasy.

Vertonghen is better than Koscielney(and probably Vermalen too.)the guy is pure class and therefore we won be spending £12-16 million on a defender who's going to sit on the bench. If we buy him he will walk straight into our starting 11.

If we add Vertonghen, Mvilla and Podolski we will have a potential title winning squad.
In one summer we would have added defensive solidity, extra height, power and a 20+ goals a season striker to take the pressure off Van Persie.

Good to see a little optimism around here!!:emoticon-0148-yes:

I'd add Giroud, just as extra tactical variety and RVP protection... The guy is outstanding, and would be a huge asset to the squad.

i disagree, the money needs to be spent on squad players. our first team, when playing well, are the best in the country. its when we've had injuries and had to use the squad that we have struggled. we need other options from the bench, because the current ones don't do anything. the first 11 is good, the squad is bad.
