The Independant is saying there is a deal in place to sell him for a further £3.1m? Personally thought it would be higher than this - I don't think Short would want to lose £4m on a player - possibly paper ****e but not sure: -------------------- http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-sunderland-striker-asamoah-gyan-7697116.html Asamoah Gyan's permanent departure from Sunderland looks more likely after Al Ain chief executive Carlo Nohra claimed he was "very confident" of signing the striker on a new deal. Gyan has helped the United Arab Emirates club to the Pro League title after joining on loan from the Black Cats for a fee of £6million in September last year. The Ghana striker has been a key part of that success after netting 22 goals in all competitions and is reportedly keen to remain in the Middle East. Nohra claimed in March that the club had first option to buy Gyan outright and despite outside interest believes a deal will be struck with Sunderland this summer. "I'm very confident that he will be staying," Nohra told Sport3600. "He has indicated on a number of occasions that he would like to remain at the club. "There is a loan agreement that we need to work out with Sunderland, but what is really important is that the player wants to be here and we would like to keep him. So now it's about working out the logistics of a transfer. "That doesn't mean it's going to happen, but the seeds are there for us to ensure that this becomes a long-term deal." After paying the initial £6million to acquire Gyan's services for the season, reports have suggested Al-Ain can pay a further £3million to complete a permanent deal. The 26-year-old will have two years of the contract he signed when he joined the Black Cats from Rennes during the summer of 2010 remaining at the end the current season, and his future could have a major bearing on manager Martin O'Neill's transfer plans. Gyan arrived on Wearside on the back of a series of impressive displays for his country at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa as then manager Steve Bruce invested a club record £13.1million on him. It took Gyan time to get used to the Barclays Premier League, but he announced his arrival in earnest with his first goal for the club at Wigan on September 11. He managed 11 goals last season as he, Darren Bent and Danny Welbeck vied for places in the starting line-up before Bent's January departure for Aston Villa, and also scored for Ghana in a friendly against England. Gyan was linked with a summer move to Tottenham as Bruce renewed his interest in former target Peter Crouch and despite the manager's repeated insistence that the African was going nowhere, the noises coming out of the player's camp were not encouraging. It nevertheless came as something of a shock when, hours before the club's home clash with Chelsea on September 10, they announced that Gyan had joined Al Ain on loan.
Probably, with the loan fee being so massive, there was an agreement in place to buy him for a cut price deal if Al Ain so wished. I have said this on many threads suggetsing you would get another 10-15 million for Gyan, and been shot down in flames every time.
so 9.1m for our record signing that we paid 13.1m for we signed him as an unproven premier league player and when he left he had shown he was good enough to play in the best league in the world The club should of demanded more money for Gyan, he might be off our wage bill as Al Ain are paying for his wages but we should of wanted our money back what we paid for him atleast
No done deals yet. Mon and Short wont be rushed, or rolled over. Both know the current value of players.
If true, then this is an abortion of a deal and whoever negotiated it, at whatever level, they should be sacked with immediate effect. I cant believe Ellis short could be duped so massively. We should have demanded a full fee of £15m up front at the time or £6m now and £9m this summer. £15m should have been a minimum return on our investment IMO. After all, he cost £13m to buy and we are selling him after 12 goals in the EPL in his first season. Farcical come to mind here if true.
We haven't paid anywhere near the 13m quoted as he wasn't around long enough to trigger various clauses in his contract. We paid more like 8-10m.
It's absolute pish, as the Al Ain owner said a couple of months ago 'we hope we can keep Gyan'. If a deal was in place, he wouldn't have said this, not as if he's waiting for his ****ing wages to go in. Absolute and utter horseshit this story.
Aye, same time as the Al Ain blokes statement, it's bollocks. If they want him, they outbid the other brainless clubs prepared to pay money for a dog ****e. Simples.
Only losing 3 million pouns on a player who gave you 2 years service and then (if reports are true) basically demanded to leave is not bad at all. price is always driven down by spoiled players stamping their feet.
Losing £3million is a lot when some muggins team in the UAE is prepared to offer you a gain of £5million! Time will tell, I just want our hands washed of the little ****er.
We need to stop being a soft touch on players who are under contract. He can come back and play unless his price is met. I don't care if he is unhappy he shouldnt of signed for us. Live & die by your decisions.
I remember reading that at the time, and thinking"that doesnt sound good..." then. It was around the time it came out other arab clubs were interested, and the chairman said "we hope we can keep him.." followed by something like "our fans can rest assured we are in a good bargaining position. I've suspected ever since then there was a fee already agreed if they wanted to take it up after the loan. I believe the "hope" was just referring to whether gyan stll wanted to at the end of the loan..
Even if it where the case, there's the chance another mega wealthy club offers greedy guts another 12p a week, and he won't wanna be at Al Ain. Then it's bidding war time..
