i've tried watching a few celtic games on sky this season, i always end up switching over after 20 minutes, celtic arent a bad team but its not something i'd miss if sky lost the rights to put it lightly....
And I suspect most Cardiff fans are the same as you. I'm not that interested in Championship football and I seldom watch it, but the difference is I don't give my opinion on things I know little or nothing about. Suffice to say Ledley and Matthews are both now established in the Wales national side so I think it's a hollow argument that neither of them would get a game for Cardiff. That's wishful thinking I believe.
ahead of who? i'd probably rather mcnaughton over matthews, but i'm disappointed he decided to leave, he was forced our by jones, plain and simple. ledley on the other hand has been very, very poor in the wales team and thankfully we now play the much better joe allen instead of him. matthews gets a game for wales on the left, but not ahead of gunter, who's a better player at this moment in time. ledley would probably make the cardiff team, though in hindsight its been a poor decision to go to scotland. the facts speak for themselves mate, you cant even qualify for the europa league ffs, whilst birmingham (of the championship) held their own in there...
Ledley is a shadow of his former self? I think you mean 2 shadows with all the deep fried Mars bars he's been eating. He has really bulked up since being with us. Not a criticism just a statement of fact. Has it made him stronger and improved his game? I don't know.
Perhaps you should start listening then instead of burying your head in that Scottish sandpit. You're like the soldier in the mass marchpast who's out of step shouting at all the others "FFS you lot, get in step!".......
So you have watched every game he's played since he joined Celtic or are your views formed from ignorance as I previously suggested? Is it a "fact" because you think it's true? I have news, that's "Opinion" not "fact".
The day I listen to ill formed opinions from people who know the sum total of hee haw about Scottish Football will be the day the Sun sets in the east and rises in the west.
Hey - don't mention the Sun mate, Rupert may be hacking this conversation......... As for setting in the east, I wouldn't tell the Japs - they'll have to alter their flag. Anyway, best of luck next season in that one-horse race up there. Do you think you'll make the Champions League again with all that opposition you've got?
DevAdvocate 1 Wales game at Cardiff was enough to see how much weight Ledley has packed on. By the way, try reading the whole comment not just the bits you want to take a pop at. I said "Not a criticism" so take that on board unless your little persecution complex prevents it.
Is that the same "Champions League" that you may have watched on TV? That's about the closest you'll come obviously. I don't have a persecution complex, I just like poking fun at people who wear their ignorance like a badge of honour. I also like having a laugh at fans who suddenly think they are the next big thing because they have a chance to play with the big boys. A season in the EPL wil soon bring you crashing back to earth I suspect.
The thing is we have no hang ups about where we are or our divine right to be in ANY competion - let alone the Champions League. On the other hand, you generally expect it and get there because of a two-bit SPL that is polarised to the extreme. If you played your football south of the border, it would be a somewhat different story - only an opinion of course.
This thread clearly shows that whilst you have no hang ups about who you are, some of you do think very highly of your players (some may say arrogantly), so much so that you are being less than complimentary regarding Celtic players. Doubtless I could write a whole team list of Cardiff players who (in my opinion, not actually knowledge-based) would not start in the current Celtic side. Loovens for example. I could write a book on how bad he is, so should I blame Cardiff fc and argue that Cardiff must have ben really awful if he was a regular? What would be the purpose? To antagonise fans of Cardiff? Likewise I could bluff my way in a debate about how Ledley and Matthews have come on leaps and bounds since they came to a "proper" team. I could pretend that I had seen Cardiff play on numerous occasions, and from my untramelled view I would pontificate that Celtic play at a higher standard of football. I wouldn't, i'm pretty honest when it comes to football so I don't know if Ledley and Matthews (who has been one of my players of the season) are any better than they were at Cardiff but there are no factors that I can think of that would suggest that they have suddenly gone backwards at Celtic. And there's the rub, I don't for one minute believe any Cardiff fan has seen enough of Celtic to make a judgement, it's far easier to simply recycle the same tired old cliches and pretend to yourself that Cardiff have better players than Celtic. I don't need to score petty points by insulting Cardiff, what would be the purpose? They (like the rest of the English League teams) mean nothing to me, why should I have an interest and why should the SPL be compared to the EPL? Because we are neighbours? That strikes me as a pretty thin argument. Do the Swiss League get judged by the standards of their bordering countries/near neighbours Italy and Germany? England and Wales have a combined population of some 45 million, Scotland has a population of less than 5million, so if people want to compare and contrast then it's a pretty pointless exercise, We are maybe at the standard of the Scandinavian leagues, Hungary and Poland et al, we know it and we don't need anyone telling us.
Those are fair comments Dev, and as far as I'm concerned, I never intended this thread I started to focus specifically on the quality (or not) of Glasgow Celtic FC. You seem to assume that many who have posted on here, me included, are intent on having a go at the club - that is not so. It is the SPL and it's general standards that is being discussed. The fact is that those three players are generally playing against poorer opposition than they would experience in the English pyramid - I'm sorry if that offends you but it is a fact, not just an opinion. The point I raised was that from our knowledge of the players when they were in our charge at Cardiff, and from what we have seen and heard since, what do CCFC posters think were the chances of them being included for our playoff game against West Ham on Thursday if they were here now. You will never eradicate "own club bias", so let's just say that yours is no worse than ours.
Of course expectation levels are high at Celtic there is no competition in the league. As soon as they play in Europe they get found out and knocked out.
