Lastly, a quality, goal scorer such as Soldado and maybe a younger forward like De Jong to replace Kuyt long term. 4-3-3 -Sissoko--Lucas--Banega- Gerrard--Soldado--Suarez Johnson and Enrique bombing forward and providing the width and Suarez/Gerrard drifting around causing panic. 4-4-2 Gerrard--Banega--Lucas--Bellamy --------Soldado--Suarez-------- Gerrard and Bellamy getting some rest time with Philips/Hoilet rotating with them. Lets go for the top four, easily achieveable imo with the strong squad we have, just need the last few pieces of quality to push us up.
Well you need top 5. No doubt about it. European football is vital, if you were to lose it again then who knows what might happen. You could be a cup team again next season but its a big risk and anything can happen day by day. As for signing new players, it wont be easy, whats your appeal right now to players who could not care less about your history? Europa League will be a plus for some players but the real top class players will be harder to impress. I think you will do it next season and scrape 5th on the last day. It would make sense for you guys to go out of the cups early and focus 100% on the league as your squad cannot compete on all fronts just now.

Ah but the fact every player on earth knows we will be up there next season, in CL and as always one of the faverouites. Great manager, living legends in our team and every player gets a chance at our club. So much on offer at United, dont be worrying about us, there is no need. Yourselves though, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Real Madrid etc are all ahead of you in the race for the top players just now. Not that its impossible you wont get a top player, you still have the small matter of playing for one of the worlds greatest clubs to attract them. We have a thread on our board about the next 20 years, we consider you the wild card just now, there is every chance you will be a major force in the next 2 decades but there are a few factors that will have an impact on it. New stadium, investment on players and how serious your owners really are. From what you guys say its likely we will be fighting out top spot with you soon enough.

I think you have to be looking at the Europa cup placings until you get a decent defence and manager. But to put a whole season down to bad luck as some muppet said earlier is laughable. Liverpools shortcomings have been the poor showing of the tarmac laying Carroll and other underachieving signings like Downing & Adam.
Luck plays a part in all teams seasons. Some have good luck some bad. Liverpool have had their fair share of bad luck but at the same time if you work hard enough and keep going you make your own luck. Was it anyones fault bar Liverpools that they hit the post 31 times this season? No, can we say for sure if they had scored those goals they would be better off? Nope, we dont know that. Other teams can argue that they have had bad luck this season aswell. Like you say, Europa League places are their short term goal, they should do it and a few years from now I expect them to be pushing for the top 4. In a decade if everything they have planned starts paying off then I expect them to challenge for the title with a number of other teams. Long way to go just now though.

You clearly haven't watched much of us this season if you think we need a to get a 'decent defence'. Only United and City have conceded fewer goals than us, and this is including the shock losses to Bolton/QPR where we shipped 3 each, and a dodgy 3-2 win over Blackburn. Our defence is fine. It's our finishing which is the issue. Buy a quality goal scorer and we'll be at least 15 points better off. Not competing for the title, but up to top four challenging. We don't expect imediate success, just progress for now.
I think a steady top 8 finish for Liverpool next season. I can't see you finishing any higher to be honest.
