Yes, but Rickie followed up with the fact that he would go to Anfield to win. It was amusing when Tadanari was trying to hear the words to that complicated song 'We are going up'...he was always a beat behind.

I don't think the question/statement was planned, but from the heart. I know Clem can be a bit of a nob but I thought it was quite a touching thing to say to Billy. He's probably interviewed him dozens of times this season and has got to know him to a certain extent.

The full quote was - "You've had a tough year mate..., and this just throws you in another direction..."

    I found it quite poignant.

Clem undoubtedly meant well, but chose the wrong moment when Billy was at the happiest he'd been for a long time.

I would have thought that Billy's thoughts were never very far from his awful loss anyway, and that he might even have been moved by Clem's sympathetic comments, rather than taken aback. I didn't see much wrong with the way Clem approached it personally.

I know Nigel very well from his days up north. If ever One man deserves what he has done for your club Nigel does.
To think that many of Saints fans questioned his appointment makes my blood turn cold. I look forward to seeing Nigel test himself next season against the best. Interesting season awaits. Good luck and All the best.

Thanks, how do you see yourselves progressing, I wonder if Barmby can do it? Enjoyed my trip up to the KC and I wonder if the opposing fans in the lower divisions are going to be my biggest miss now we are back in the Premiership.

I liked the comment at the end...

"It looks like the Adkins diet has worked for Southampton, but the weight goes on for big Sam."

Oh, I don't doubt he did. But yes, he could have kept away from reminding Sharp of the sorrow that he is obviously still going to feel. Of course, the hurt will never really go away, but eventually he'll be able to take that kind of a question and answer it.

Mark Clemmit is actually a very likeable bloke and, in my opinion, he's one of the best football reporters around, simply because he is very good at showing that footballers are actually just ordinary people, albeit with a very special sporting skill.
