According to Sunday's papers, striker Connor Wickham could be set for a loan return to first club Ipswich. The 18 year-old forward, who commanded a whopping £8m transfer fee last summer, has failed to make much of an impact at the Stadium of Light so far. Injuries have hampered the progress of the England U21 international who has notched just once in 15 appearances for the Black Cats. With Nicklas Bendtner, Frazier Campbell and Ji Dong-Won all ahead of the former Tractor Boy at present and strikers on Martin O'Neill's shopping list this summer a loan move could be for the best. Town boss Paul Jewell is said to be keen on bringing the club's former protegee back to Suffolk. Already offered, choice of four cars, three luxury, one rough and ready , but I will pay the fuel. no whip rounds reqd.
Whinging in Newcastle, that he is a geordie, and wassent given a chance in Mackemland,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I think it will benefit all parties. He needs some experience - clearly not ready for the premiership. I just hope its not a waste of 8million.
I agree wth this - he was looking ok before his injury and this may be just what he needs to get hmself back on track. A regular run of games and a few goals and we might even get our money back on him.
Doesn't matter what mode of transfer we offer he'll surely miss anyway. Hopefully wherever he goals next year they can break the concrete blocks he's got attached to his feet. Id start him off trying to trap bags of sands and see how he goes. Age is no excuse, he makes Heskey look like Usian Bolt and Messi had a love child.
Agreed - he looked every bit a premier league player before he picked up a bad injury - he then lost confidence (wonder how many on here have had a hand in that eh?) - the lad is 19 years old and we're offering him a lift to get rid of him - like we did for George McCartney etc. - People need to realise that supported teams and players often play better than ones who are constantly slagged off. I think a loan will do him good - When O'Neill first saw him he said he saw a big future for him and he was a big part of his plans - so obviously the lad has talent - he just needs a bit of time to get sorted and he'll be a good player.
The lad is absolutely rubbish. Another £8 million wasted by the obese geordie idiot. Pay them to take Elmohamady as well
At this stage of his career a loan period should be beneficial to him, and if he cant break into the first eleven, cut the losses and let him go. He will still play football and earn a very good living, nomatter where he ends up.
I hope he makes a lot of people eat their words...He is only 18 year old, has been dogged by injuries, and some on here are writing him off for Christ's sake.
Well said, an 18 year old kid with a massive price tag, he didn't set his own price which has heaped pressure on him. He has had some injuries and its been a big step up for him so what do some of our fans do, slag the lad all over just to make sure he feels as bad as possible, ffs
Nah he will be fine, long term, just was a bad punt by Brucie, for too much money at the wrong time. when we needed Proven strikers.
