What sad news ! He appears to be very philosophical about it. I thank him for all he did for us as a player at PFC over the years - what a thoroughly nice guy - and wish him well in the future. Cheers Linvoy
He was part of the relations section. His job was to go round the local community, meeting kids, doing charity stuff, work in the community. He was a club ambassador. Dont mock him. Gentleman Jimmy Dickinson held a similar role year ago.
Linvoy is, IMO our modern day Gentleman Jim, although Linvoy himself would probably be humbly embarrassed to be compared to the man, such is his admirable persona
He was an ambassador for the club and had real personality. It is a genuine loss for the club and for him, wish him well.
I just bet he thought, that as long as it helps the club, it was worth it for him to have to leave. That's the type of guy he is.
He has been a great servant to Pompey but this Saints fan can't get around the shirt issue. It's only a shirt, I tell myself, but it isn't! It goes to the very core of a man. When he puts on that shirt and then goes out in front of thousands of people, he is really saying "this is me, this is who I am" and I try to not judge him harshly or question how he could show such poor judgement because other than "the shirt" issue he seems to be a nice bloke, a fact confirmed by my daughter who met him when he visited her school. I try not to be prejudiced about it, but really! Faith in football? Pah!
Because he wears blue with pride Channon? If so, I understand what you mean - it is the same feeling I get about Le Tissier. I KNOW he was a great player and I respect what he did on the ball, plus the attachment he has to SFC - but because he wears the stripes, it is really the only reason I dislike him. As you may know from this forum though, I despise the rivalry between the two ends of the 27!
Oh well, I guess I am going to fail from time to time with my particular brand of humour. "The shirt" was the "faith in football" one (I am a card carrying disciple of Richard Dawkins) and you were supposed to assume I was talking about a Pompey one, until the punch line. Ah well, back to the drawing board! I would hope that you know from my postings that I have absolutely no problems with Pompey shirts at all. They are a nice shade of blue and can be used in a variety of ways such as cleaning the car or as a liner for hanging baskets and suchlike. So, 3/10 for me then. Must try harder.
3/10 being a bit generous me thinks...... ......now go put another coat of turtle wax on the ol'banger.
Yes, Sir! Truth be told, Pompey shirts are a bit rubbish for cleaning the car. It's so difficult to get a decent shine with the acrylic and all. So just leaves us with the hanging basket liner, as really good uses, although that has the benefit that they are out of sight. Now where did I put that chamois?
There should be more thoroughly decent guys like him around. The world would be a lot nicer place for it.
Funny you should say that, I do have a Saints shirt here for when I want a "luxury" toilet break..... ......got to love these multi-use modern shirts
Yes, that would make sense. Use a Pompey shirt for the "bog-standard" effort and reserve the Saints shirt for the luxury session. Again, though, I would have to ask if the acrylic is the best thing for the job?
I see that Stuart Gray has also been made redundant which is a shame for the guy. Also thought he was a cracking coach. Anyway best ofl uck to him.
The toilet rolls at FP should be like the ones we had at school. Instead of "Now wash your hands" on each sheet, they could read "Now pay your debts" Come to think of it, maybe they did have "Now wash your hands" written on them.
Perhaps as an economy drive they were using cut down rolls, so that the original "now wash your hands of your debts" became abbreviated?
Would that be "in living memory"? Because Gentleman Jim was a very admirable man, as was Reg Flewin, and Peter Harris and many more from the annals of Pompey history.
