Agree. I would like to see it go back to 1 sub. Ok and a reserve goalie. Half the subs they use nowadays just to wast time. More professional cheating is all it is.
I think it's good if it moves back to 7. Yeah there's 4 unused players but you have more options to choose from should you want to make a sub and gives 2 more players the opportunity of been in the match day squad. I know from this season supporters have wanted it moved to 7 subs.
I don t see why it changed, more options means that you can maybe stick a youth player on the bench to get used to bench warming. If it was due to money with clubs not being able to afford the extra two players then they could name two subs if they want, 7 being the max. Dont know why it was ever changed
True but it's stupid that young players can't make the bench and get in the team when they otherwise could with 7 subs. Look at Cullen he's our best example. Every time he's been on the bench it's been a game we've needed a goal at the end so he's either thrown on with the impossible task of scoring with no support or he doesn't get on at all. If we were allowed 7 subs he'd have been on the bench pretty much every game since he came back from Bury and he'd have been able to come on in the games we've been ahead in near the end.
The Championship teams voted for seven subs, the majority of League One/Two teams voted for five. The problem the FA now have, is having different rules in the Championship to the other two leagues and as far as I'm aware, they haven't yet resolved the issue.
Its already been confirmed that its back to 7 subs from next season. Nick told Burnsie live on air weeks ago.
Correct. It should never have been changed. Many championship clubs wanted 7 kept but were out voted by the lower leagues. ffs, you dont even have to name 7 if you dont want to or are unable to. This should not even have been an issue this season.
No change was needed. The league 1 and 2 clubs should have been told just to name 5 subs then. ffs, it was kept at 7 for the 2 cup competitions. TYpical of the Football League who changed it and the FA for allowing it.
It can't be an FA problem, the PL has 7 and the other 3 leaues have 5. And it can't be a FL problem either, because we have different financial rules to L1 and L2. The reason it was reduced to 5 was because enough clubs agreed that by being allowed to name 7 it encouraged overspending, as if you didn't spend the money needed to name 7 professionals as subs you were disadvantaged when you played clubs who did as they'd have more ability to change things from the bench.
I meant FL, rather than FA. As far as I was aware, all FL chairmen voted and as a result of that vote, the FL decided to revert to seven subs in the Championship only, but I've never actually seen that confirmed anywhere.
I'm sure I read somewhere it was going back to seven. It should never have gone back to 5, because whilst the rules state a maximum of seven subs, you dont have to name seven, the L1 and 2 clubs can just put five on the bench if they are worrying about finances or whatever.
