Because he started his management career in football 38 years ago. In Sweden Malmo offered him a lifetime contract, that's how highly they rated him. Look at his career it is littered with famous victories. We have had years of over hyped England managers who have achieved little. This man has earned this chance and his credentials far outshine any other candidate. He will do as well as anybody IMHO and speaking five languages is quite an advantage too for an international manager.
After seeing Nigel Adkins get two successive promotions with Southampton, I am surprised no-one has suggested him yet As for suggesting Martinez, well this is Tottenham Hotspur we are talking about here, not some middle of the league club. Like him or not, Harry Redknapp has raised the bar when it comes to future managers at our club, and Martinez falls below that level.
I don't think you can blame the FA for the media anointing Redknapp as the next England manager. I don't think the FA ever wanted Redknapp.
Shhhh! But it does raise a valid point, most of us at Southampton knew very little about Adkins when he took over and he has worked wonders at Saints. He was not a household name and had only managed what might be deemed smaller clubs yet he has been a breath of fresh air and we are delighted to have him.
Prejudice is a dreadful thing. The press love Harry, but all he's ever done is win the FA Cup with Pompey, and preside over us when we (one of the best teams in the division) took 4th spot, a couple of seasons back. For some reason, the gutter press consider that to be the greatest thing any English manager has ever done. Mind you, I reckon that quite a few of those gutter press hack journos must be feeling pretty stupid that they missed Alan Pardew. Half Harry's age, working with a fraction of budget, having sold half his team, and holding strong to finish above us. Okay, so I may have exaggerated a couple of my facts slightly, but the more intelligent among you will understand what I'm saying.
The thing is, that is the greatest thing an English manager has done in the Premier League for some time. Think about it: In twenty years of the Premier League, an English manager has never won it - of the five managers who have, two were Scottish, one was French, one was Portuguese and one was Italian - and in that time Harry and Joe Royle are the only Englishmen to win the FA Cup.
Ok Spurf. Harry was the darling when we were third in the table but his inconsistency has shown up again in a mini spectacular fall from grace as he has done many times before and the FA saw this. Harry for I don't know where but not for us anymore. He's doing the same as last season when we fell away at the end and I'd be worried that it would happen next season too. Come in Bilic.
My one fear with Woy and England is the fact that he has to manage a load of egos, and people that know Woy say that his training methods are tedious, so how will this go down with the likes of Rooney,Gerrard and Terry? Also, as Woy is not the media choice, I suspect they will pounce on the first chance to get on his back and start all the bollocks that every England manager has to deal with.
I was saying this earlier. If RDM doesn't win the CL, but finishes top 4 + wins the FA Cup - and he doesn't get the job, wtf is the new manager gonna think?!
There is another similarity - you can expect a decent wage increase once the contract is signed, considering England had had the highest-paid manager at the last three World Cups.
Roy's definitely the cheap option, although that's not to say he's a bad option mind. If anything this will distract 'Arry further as he tries to keep tabs on the situation with the FA and Woy.
'Arry's managed to make a complete fool of himself lol. Well one positive for spurs, the snub by FA can't possibly do more damage now then their actual interest a couple of months back.
The difference is, if he doesn't pick them they are not hanging round the squad poisoning the atmosphere. To be fair, the usual suspects have had years to make their case and they have failed dismally at every opportunity. As for the press, you could have whoever you want in the job and the press will do a hatchet job on them; On the front pages just before the tournament and on the back pages during and after it.
