I wasn't comparing us to them, I was just saying that going for players without much PL experience isn't necessarily a bad option.

Gents, I'll put my two peneth worth in, for what it's worth.

You need to have a real core of player who want to work for each other, a great work ethic and team spirit. Yes, add some players, but they don't have to have PL experience we've proved this.

Going out and spending on big names players sometimes doesn't work just look at QPR. Enjoy the ride, we certainly have.

Really looking forward to seeing you play next season. All the best.

We will buy some quality players from abroad who offer us more quality for price compared to their english equivalents.

I'm surprised at the negativity around Clyne & Phillips as potential signings. I know it gets a bit boring to keep hearing their names but they are quality. Clyne is out of contract and it's estimated a tribunal would set the fee at £2m. He's a much better player than Fox who cost us around that much and is seen as a potential future England player. Phillips has torn us to shreds at times when he's played against us, and there aren't many wide right players with his pace and quality that would reasonably fit in our price bracket. He's certainly a significant improvement on De Ridder & Puncheon. Hoilett would be even better, but he's likely to go with someone like Spurs.

I think the most important issue is probably a Right Mid/Winger and Centre back. I think Peter Wittingham would be fantastic however could be risky seeing as he dosen't have any PL experience. If Wigan go down possibly Moses and switch Lallana to the right.

I'll suggest Danny Murphy of Fulham for starters. Long in the tooth but has bags of Prem experience and could be vital in the dressing room! A poor man's Paul Scholes maybe!

Lots of good ideas here - tho I'm assuming that Scott Dann fans didn't see the Blackburn game earlier! Fair enough Spurs were dominant, but the Blackburn defence were camped half way inside their own half, not good so no thankyou on that one. I'd like Richard Dunne or Cuellar from Villa - no reason we shouldn't try at least..!

Here you go Godders, maybe this isn't right anymore but either way our youth system looks like being a vital factor.

    - Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

    - Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

    - Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

25, players who are 21 or under at the end of the summer transfer window don't have to be registered though

All these names thrown about, it will be really interesting to see who we get. As we all know we'll be linked to loads.

Personally if Blackburn went down I would like to see us go for Morten Gamst Pendersen. Unlikely we would get him though. As previously mentioned Hoilett to add to Sharp, Lambert & Lee (think Lee is going to be a suprise package in PL).

Wouldnt mind seeing us go for someone like Danny Rose from Spurs on loan.

Just because the team is playing ****, doesn't mean Danns is crap. Confidence and the other players can all add up him playing bad.

Look at how he was a Brum, totally different then he is atm.

So far everyone has mentioned players based in England, does anyone watch much European football to throw some foreign based player names into the mix? Jefferson Montero would be a good viable option imo, plays for Betis who are not in a great financial position, and is a wide player with a **** load of pace.

Cue everyone saying "foreign based players? LETS GET MESSI" :D

Fair enough - I agree he was good at Brum in the Championship. The lad just doesn't inspire me with much confidence, and may soon celebrate two Premiership relegations..Maybe just needs a better manager

QPR are proof that you cannot buy a completely new team.

Adding only a few additions can do a world of good for the club!

Agreed, and that's the position that we're (hopefully) in: we'll need to add players to succeed, but we have a backbone in place that should be fairly competent, and an expansive style of play that has been proven successful for a number of other promoted teams. We need a right wing with real pace and skill, a good central defender and a right back; those are pretty well non-negotiable. Everywhere else, we have a bit of flexibility...there are a number of positions that could be strengthened, and I think that we will -- and should -- add elsewhere to our starting XI, but we have enough talent in place that we need not make panic buys, if the right player does not present.

Everyone seems to want a new goalkeeper. I reckon that Davies is good for 2 more years. Bart will stay as cover because his knee won't hold up for a full season elsewhere. Then we have a brilliant young goalkeeper already on our books, Jack Dovey. He has been on loan at Eastleigh all season and the supporters already rank him as their best goalkeeper ever. If our aim is to have 6 or more players come through the ranks then he is one of the more obvious ones.
