UIR put his finger on it when he posted the 40% win rate. 40% wins you absolutely nothing!. With Voy in charge England will become a 2nd tier team - difficult to beat and nothing more.

Throughout his managerial career being difficult to beat has been his credo. He maximised that strategy with Fulham. Now that may have been useful 2 years ago - a stable first team with a rapidly developing more fluid U21s. However, we need those more fluid players now and they will be stifled by Voy.

Roy Hodgson England Odds

by TIMOTHY MASTERS on APRIL 29, 2012

News broke on Sunday that the FA has made an official approach to West Brom about their manager Roy Hodgson, and West Brom Chairman Jeremy Peace has allowed them permission to speak with the 64 year-old former Liverpool, Inter and Udinese boss about taking over from Fabio Capello. To a lot of people this has come as a surprise after Harry Redknapp had been singled out as a possible favourite for the post following Tottenham’s excellent start to the season, but since then Spurs have slumped and doubts have remained about willing Redknapp is to walk away from a good Spurs side.

Hodgson is one of the few English managers to have worked abroad for any period of time, and one of an even smaller group to enjoy prolonged success. He was also in charge of the Swiss national side when they made it to the last sixteen of the 1994 World Cup, and oversaw a successful qualification for the Euro 96 before leaving to manage Inter Milan full time. Incredibly, since October of that year Hodgson had been doing both jobs simultaneously, an almost unthinkable task in modern football, especially with a club the size of Inter involved. Sadly, his physical Inter Milan side was not a success in the Italian League and he left the club eighteen months later.

Having also managed Finland, and more recently been a success in the English domestic game, albeit at a certain level, Hodgson now finds himself 1/2 with StanJames to be appointed. While he has built a good side at West Brom and secured them as a Premier League regular, some fans may have doubts about his methods following his disastrous spell at Anfield, but it seems likely that the man himself will be very interested in what the FA have to say. He certainly has the ‘exasperated manager’ look down, and this attribute will hopefully not be too often employed if he does take the side to Euro 2012

Let's ask UIR a simple question? Why did you post this thread on the Liverpool board? Surely, if you wanted a general discussion you could have posted it on the United board?

Just trying to stir a little **** methinks!

Success with Finland and Switzerland.

Without wishing to be rude, they're not the biggest footballing nations are they?

It mirrors his clubs record.

Good with teams who expect little and have little pressure.

Well England are probably more like a 3rd tier team at the moment and fairly easy to beat so that would be an improvement.

This will be a good appointment: a manager who is expert at painting mediocrity & under achievement as glorious success!

So much for any prospect of the young dynamic England. The Golden generation will zimmer frame on. Beckham will be buzzing with expectation of getting a recall! Maybe Terry Butcher too!

I truly can not wait for all those hacks that slaughtered us for "turning" on Woy writing glowing pieces on yet another England failure steered by their hero!

The hack's blue eyed boy is now the tax dodger and Hodgson appears to be purely an FA choice,so they'll start a snide vendetta against him as soon as he signs his England contract.

What was the last qualifying game they lost? Ukraine in 2009?

They're alright against the minnows. You just get found out against superior footballing countries like Portugal, Germany and Brazil to name the three who have knocked you out in the last decade.

The suits from Soho Square, though, have not spoken to Redknapp and sound like they have made their decision.

"Conversations will take place with Roy before any further announcements can be made." FA chairman David Bernstein said on Sunday evening.

"I'm grateful to Jeremy and all at West Bromwich Albion for their co-operation in allowing us to approach Roy, who I have since spoken with.

"Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set-out soon after Fabio Capello's departure."

Two home nations at the tournament, one of their managerial CVs looks like this:

Juventus
Italian League (6): 1976–77, 1977–78, 1980–81, 1981–82, 1983–84, 1985–86
Italian Cup (2): 1978–79, 1982–83
European Cup (1): 1984–85
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1984
UEFA Cup (2): 1977, 1993
European Super Cup (1): 1984
Intercontinental Cup (1): 1985

Internazionale
Italian League (1): 1988–89
Supercoppa Italiana: 1989
UEFA Cup (1): 1991

Bayern Munich
German League (1): 1996–97
German Cup (1): 1997–98
German League Cup (1): 1996–97

Benfica
Portuguese League (1): 2004–05

Red Bull Salzburg
Austrian League (1): 2006–07

Ireland
Nations Cup (1): 2011

And the other's looks like this:

Halmstad
Allsvenskan (2): 1976, 1979

Malmö FF
Swedish football champions (2): 1986, 1988
Allsvenskan (5): 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989
Svenska Cupen (2): 1985–86, 1988–89

Copenhagen
Danish Superliga (1): 2000–01
Danish Super Cup (1): 2001

Another stroke of genius from the FA.

In all fairness, I don't think this is exactly a spectacular CV either:

Bournemouth

Football League Division Three: 1986–87
Football League Trophy: 1983–84

West Ham United

UEFA Intertoto Cup: 1999

Portsmouth

Football League Division One: 2002–03
FA Cup: 2007-08 (by spending money they didn't have, that has subsequently put the club on the brink on liquidation)

Or this:

As a manager

England U-21s

UEFA European Under-21 Championship third place: 2007
UEFA European Under-21 Championship Runner up: 2009
