If they don't speak to Harry (they haven't said the won't) it will give us something that all teams that challenge for the top have; stability. To start all over again with a new manager would unsettle the whole squad in much the same way the last few months have. Hopefully now, everbody knows where they are and will get their flaming fingers out and forfill this season's potential.
Those are fair points. But he has international experience and he is English. The truth is any manager would get destroyed by the English media. May as well let an established older English manager get the chance rather than paying millions to another foreigner with no international experience.
A colleague of mine played host to John Motson at the Cheltenham festival recently, and Motson told him that 3 out of the 5 FA bods charged with finding the Cappello replacement would advise against Harry. Motson tipped Woy or Wenger for the role. ITK or what
But surely saying they have approached him, and only him for the time being, implies he's their first choice?
I can see why the FA will go for him, its safe, he has experience and is a good tactician and after all the hype with previous managers and huge payouts, they now have the option to go down the sensible route and get a manager who will give them zero problems away from the football pitch.
Most England managers are doomed to short term contracts even if they sign longish ones, the FA will see that they are kicked out if success isn't immediate. Neither Harry nor Hodgson would be good England managers for any length of time. Neither are Bobby Robsons but both are Glen Hoddles or Kevin Keegans, not quite up to the job and not international enough for management. If he isn't appointed I would still like to say cheers Arry for 3 good years but goodbye. There are some good names out there and we now need a younger man in charge. I don't care what England does but I do care about Spurs so my vote goes to Harry for England.
Hodgson is the best for the job as he is one of few English managers with international experience (just look what he did with Norway). As for all those Spurs fans wanting rid of Redknapp, it amazes me how quickly some fans get on managers backs; if they were in charge Fergusson, Daglish, Wenger etc would already all be out of a job. Crazy.
Firstly, let me say that I am not at all surprised that the FA is looking to snub Redknap. A few of us, at the time, said (and steadfastly maintained) that Redknap is exactly the kind of manager that the FA does not want. If the FA had been of the same mind as the "cry Harry for England gutter press bollocks, it would have made its approach to Levy a long time ago, and stumped up the £10 million compensation. They didn't, and that told its own story. @ Spurcat - why should any of us slacken any criticism of Redknap? He pitched everything on a dream move to the England job, showing himself willing to sacrifice us in the process. He showed incredible naivity in believing all the crap that was written in the gutter press, and he has continued to fire-off his mouth about Modric leaving, in direct opposition to the edict that was laid down by Levy at the start of the season, that Modric would not be sold, at any price. Now, it looks like we are going to be stuck with this clown. Good for England. Not so good for us. I say that, because I cannot see how his behaviour over the last few weeks will have done anything other than to harm his reputation at Spurs, regardless of what most of us fans think.
Hodgson has managed sixteen different teams in eight countries, guided the Switzerland national team to the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup and qualification for Euro 1996; Switzerland had not qualified for a major tournament since the 1960s. From 2006 to 2007, he managed the Finland national team, guiding them to their highest ever FIFA ranking of 33rd place, and coming close to qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in the nation's history. He has been the beaten finalist in the UEFA Cup and the Europa League. Hodgson has also coached many notable club sides, including Halmstads BK, Internazionale, Blackburn Rovers, Grasshoppers, FC Copenhagen, Udinese, Viking, Fulham and Liverpool. Hodgson has served several times as a member of UEFA's technical study group at the European Championships, and he was also a member of the FIFA technical study group at the 2006 World Cup. Hodgson speaks five languages and has also worked as a television pundit in several of the countries in which he has coached. That's the CV that tells me that the FA are about to make a sensible decision for a change. (If the story is true) Roy does not excite many of the fans, in other words there is no hype around him. A bit like Ramsey in fact, but his track record tells you he is the obvious choice if you want an English manager. Forget the hype look at the record.
Yes, sorry I meant Switzerland :s. Personally I think if the FA are to appoint an English manager then he is the best choice, although there are only a few candidates.
Plus, of course, Woy will be more accustomed to the inevitable abuse he will receive, from his time at Liverpool.
Well isn't that great, after two months of our season becoming collateral damage to their tapping up our manager, the FA then turn to the safe option.
The FA are akin to internet trolls. This'll be there expression when it's announced please log in to view this image
