According the the Daily Fail, West Brom have granted permission for the FA to speak to Roy Hodgson about the vacant managers job and will appoint him this week... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2136982/Roy-Hodgson-land-England-job-ahead-Harry-Redknapp.html Of course, any DM article should be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt however, if the story is true that they have approached West Brom and have been granted permission, previously stating that the appointment will be made very soon; this story might have credence. Funny how things change. Two months ago I would have been relieved at this news. Now I am disappointed that we could realistically still have Harry next season who's shown a side to him that very few of us particularly like. What do the rest of the fans think on this one?
Not sure if you guys would think this was good or bad news? WBA have confirmed an approach from the FA for RH, the FA have also confirmed that is the only approach they have made. It may just be they want RH for the Euros and Harry is still the man they want long term? Not sure if this is good or bands news for you guys?
There's already a thread on this... http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/141294-Hodgson-to-be-named-England-manager-this-week
It's on the BBC website. WBA have given their permission. Oh well, looks like we're stuck with Harry, unless Levy decides not to offer him the new contract.
Apparantly levy withdrew the new contract. Still has a year on his present deal! Does this mean we more likely to keep our players if we don't make cl?
That might explain Harry's strangely tense looking and wound up post match interview today, considering we just won. I thought he was quite agitated. Seems he's p****d off that he didn't get the call and has some bridges to build.
It's up on SSN now as well. Maybe the "people's choice" (read "media's choice"?) might not be the best name for the job. Surely not haha!
Also on SSN. Hmm. I'm having mixed feeling as to whether this is good or bad. Good: Up until 10/12 games ago I didn't want HR to leave, so now he's staying. Bad: I really dislike Woy and his boring press conferences. I've wanted Harry out recently, and Bilic/Moyes in.
Its because he believed he was the one, the chosen one! by the fans, by virtually every person in the game yet roy was always going to be in with a shout, because of his safe, sensible personality and experience. However, roy is a manager that is great for short term positions or guiding a low rated team up the table away from relegation so if he is appointed on a temporary basis for the championships then i can see why, but long term I would expect him not to have much success as the pressure would end up being too much.
Would the FA really appoint a manager on such a short term basis? They would look like even bigger clowns if they did. I think this is a long term deal if there's any truth to it. Roy is a stable, no non-sense manager. Harry's mouth, recent FA Cup performances right under the FA's nose and track record may have just helped them to decide to go for a "safer" option. We'll see...
Or the kind of manager that is great for spending three years taking an average footballing nation to third in the world.
Well you saw a different interview to me. The interview I saw, was Harry taking the piss out of himself for not wanting Walker to take the free kick as he would "never beat Robbo from there" and because he then did, "shows how much I know". Truth is, Harry showed no signs of agitation whatsoever and was not wound up. I did think today he would have been cut some slack by his critics, but obviously I was wrong.
No, the more you think about it then the answer is no, short term sounds good but realistically the only option is long term contract.
Which confirms what I said about him managing average teams (thats what he excels at), with no expectation as i take it you're talking about his time with the swiss. Many would say England are an average team, however the expectations are huge and he won't be given the time to slowly build a time, his way, unless he can handle the media while believing his way will get results in the end. Roys a good guy but he would most likely end up being another "taylor turnip" from the lovely media.
It doesn't say anywhere that Harry won't get the job. All it says is they're gonna speak to Roy about it. Keep calm and carry on.
