So been mooted many times now but surely having seen the huge amount of money, time and love that Markus invested in our club, and having seen us reach the promised land again, SURELY we must rename a stand in his honour? As much as I think a statue would be brilliant I don't see it happening yet, but surely renaming a stand would be a small gesture in comparison to the huge amounts Markus did for our club? I'm thinking we should start some sort of online petition and present it to the club. We need to show the club just how much us, the fans, appreciate all that he has done for us.
Why not name the whole stadium after him? to be honest, I've never been keen on St Mary's despite it being at the very roots of the club. I don't think many would agree with me though, but I would've thought the Itchen stand would the best one to choose of the four, with the seats displaying a picture of him, ala The Tom Finney stand at Preston.
The Leihberrs are in charge and they don't seem to like the idea. Markus himself vetoed any name change...Cortese said he was a modest man. If the Leihberrs won't allow a flag with his face on it, I can't see them permitting a special stand with his face on it.
A Stand yes , the whole stadium no IMHO . Things change in Football & Life so quickly . A Stand named after him would stay for ever , a stadium ? No don't think so , for purely commercial reasons I hasten to add . AND FWIW the chapel stand should be re-named the ML stand in honour of the great man . Reserved , unassuming , passionate , reliable , Simply the best . Still that's enough about us , Marcus was Brilliant as well !
I would wait until we have extended the stadium and then rename a new increased capacity stand after him. I bet the big man was watching down on us yesterday with a massive grin on his face.
If we had a statue for every time someone suggested one, we'd have to start giving them season tickets. The last thing we want is a dedication war and these decisions need to be done carefully.
The front of SMS would begin to resemble the Terracotta Army. We have one statue and that was because of Ted Bates huge contribution over a long period of time. Perhaps we could have a selection of busts like they had in the marble hall at Highbury.
We might like MLT, but can you honestly see Nicola agreeing. Players are usually older when they finally get recognised anyway. Having said that I loved the statue of Henry at The Emirates...different from the usual statue...no wonder he cried when he saw it. Bit like we felt with the old Bates statue but for a different reason
I'm not a fan of erecting statues of people who are still alive. I wouldn't like that if I was Le Tiss. When he does pass on, hopefully at a very old age, we should build a giant statue, the size of the Statue of Liberty, down on the waterfront.
