Santon was fine at left back for the past 6 games

He'd be better at RB though IMO

Personally I can't wait to see Santon play at RB, his preferred and natural position, we've definitely not seen the best of him yet.
I've a feeling they'll bring in an unknown as LB.

So in that case, if Simpson signs a new contract and stays what do we do?

I can't see him agreeing to playing behind Santon at RB and similarly, having Santon as backup will seriously hinder his development. I just wish Danny would just lay his cards on the table.

Not snapping at you mate, but this comment sounds like many that assume we'd play the same line up every week. There's no way we can do that. Just because Simmo wouldn't be picked in the strongest 11 doesn't mean he'd just be cover.

    We need to rotate.

Simmo would be involved enough to keep him happy IMO.

Aye fair point, I keep forgetting about the European fixtures. <ok>

My thought is just that if he's not happy with the contract being offered to him at the moment, then telling him he'll be playing about half as many games is hardly going to win him over. I like him, he's solid enough, a quiet performer who just gets on with the job. Really think we should offer him competitive wages, £30k at least and then we can know where we stand on numbers.

Same with Guthrie (but not £30k!).

I'd be happy with that to be honest. Although I don't think Pardew sees Fergy as a LB.

I still think Pieters is almost a done deal TBH anything up £6/7 million but then again with Carr you may have never heard of the best upcoming LB and he'll arrive at the club for peanuts so i think i'm going to jump on the fence for this one

I'd be happy with these full backs:

    Pieters
    Santon
    Raylor
    Bertucci
    Tavernier

I would also like these centre halves:

    Colo
    Mbiwa
    Saylor
    Van Dijk
    Streete

What about Willo? He's definitely proven himself in my eyes and he's a good age (28), I'm very happy having him as our 3rd/4th choice CB as he'd walk into a lot of starting XIs in the league.

This. Willo is definitely not good enough to be relied upon for consistency over a long period of time, but he's solid enough to cover for 4-5 games or so.

    We should definitely keep him.

Williamson is 6'4 and lost an important header to a 5'10 winger in Moses which cost us a goal... he may not be "error prone" as such, but makes too many errors to be part of a top 6 team.

    Krul
    Forster?
    Elliot

    Pieters
    Santon
    Raylor
    Bertucci
    Tavernier
    Colo
    Mbiwa
    Saylor
    Van Dijk
    Streete

    Perch
    Tiote
    Cabaye
    Butterfield
    Marveaux
    Gosling
    Jonas

    Ba
    Cisse
    Ben Arfa
    Wijnaldum
    Obertan
    Sammy
    Shola

There's a CL contention team with realistic signings too, and big enough to accommodate a League and Cup football schedule.

Long term he isn't but for cover he's solid enough.

We shouldn't definitely go for Hoilett <ok> We could do with a proper LW that can prove a goal threat and fit into our style of play. Hoilett fits the bill. Young, quick, scores goals, assists and he wont cost too much.
