To all you Guly haters just wanted to say he had a great game yesterday. Fair enough his form might not have been great recently but for most of the season he has been quality and apart from fonte he was the best player on the pitch yesterday.
Don't know about best player but he was outstanding. Could have easily scored a couple, including early on when he was blocked in the 6 yard box and should at least had a corner. His skills will come into their own with the extra space he should get in the Prem. if we play him in the hole behind Lambert and Sharp/Lee he'll score plenty.
Completely agree Guly is best when he plays in the hole, I really wanted him to score yesterday, he deserved it so much the way he played.
To be fair I'm not the biggest Guly fan, but he was incredible yesterday. What a cross for Lallana's first!
If I was in charge there would be a Guly Appeciation Thread, stickied at the top. He deserves this as much as anyone, delighted for the guy. And he was superb yesterday.
I'm intrigued. I agree he should be well up to playing in the Prem, but how is he likely to have more space? Less, I'd have thought.
He is not a right winger! Best in the diamond. Watched a replay of the BBC coverage and specifically observed his performance, what is outstanding is his positioning to receive the ball and as long as other players are moving to receive it, he seldom wastes a pass, he seldom dwells on the ball, one touch, or control and second touch, three touches is a rarity. He may look lazy, but it is more economy of action, no running around chasing shadows, he will fit in well in the Premier, given the chance.
Guly was very impressive yesterday! The rest looked to have benefited him greatly. However, the criticism this year has come in fiercely contested games where he seems to go hiding so I'm not sure a decent performance at home against a relegated Coventry will silence all of his critics just yet. I've slagged Guly on here before because I do find him frustrating at times but I do think next season he will adapt well to the EPL and be absolutely key for us when playing in midfield off of the strikers.
Only because he will drift around the way he does and lose markers, especially when we have Adam and Rickie doing the same thing. He could become this generation's Matt Le Tiss!
He was good yesterday, but he will never become the new Matt Le Tiss. Still think he could end up leaving tbh.
IMHO Guly is the sort of player Saints will need in the EPL. OK, he does have an off-day sometimes, but generally this season he has been a joy to watch. I hope he doesn't decide to move on now he has the opportunity to move up a gear. As for Fonte, what a game yesterday...(shame he's lost the Alice Band!)
He proved yesterday that when he wants to play and when he's happy/in the mood, he's a good player. Yes we were playing poor opposition but he barely made one mistake all game. Plus, on a previous point I stated a few months back, he actually celebrated our goals! Good to see a smile on his face and the embrace with Nigel after the game when he was talking to Clem was fantastic.
Guly was one of the most passionate in the dressing room celebrations on player, don't know if thats any hint to whether he'll stay. But If you consider he joined a club in league one and now he's in the prem this must be a dream for the fella.
Why would he want to leave now he has a crack at the Prem? He is unlikely to be the subject of a bid from another Prem team who are significantly better than Saints, surely?
