In fairness if you live in the North West you're probably much of a muchness in terms of distance to a few clubs. Same as living in London and the home counties.
I personally dont have any qualms with who supports what or whom TBH I ony ask Jip because he says he believes its about locality, I dont have a problem with his view as such, just asking This is where the problem sets in for me. Boundaries and borders for me are largely irrelevant, always have been and TBF to Jip I have had boundaries and borders shoved into my face since I was a kid due to my background etc which isnt his fault But IF boundaries and borders are the deciding factor then distance becomes irrelevant. For me a person from wigan (to use jips current abode) has as much right to support Man Utd as a person from surrey Now in jips case his kids are in wigan, but what if he had moved to london and they were born there?
Local - Of or relating to a city, town, or district rather than a larger area so wigan where were you born jip?
Fan, it's a decent debate. I agree that borders and boundaries are irrelevant and a lot of times I use it with London Man utd and Liverpool fans just as petty point scoring. Now in most cases the footie related point scoring is harmless but, of course, in other cases (and I suppose you could include international sporting allegiances in this) it's a bit more sinister and has far more of an agenda behind it.
And yet you suggested earlier that because your child was born in Merseyside he could support Liverpool. Merseyside is a county fan. Wigan is in the same county as OT.
from personal experience it can be right down scary TBH I always used to wonder as a kid how 'difeerences' were put aside between rival fans for national games then back to beating the living daylights out of each other on the weekend after Its true I guess that the only way to overcome all boundaries would be an alien invasion As for the point scoring, for me its this simple the bigger a club gets and appears in other countries the bigger its fanbase gets Most fans in this country would now watch barca play and some younger ones may even become supporters, its how it starts I know F1 fans who supported senna, yet had no 'link' with him I actually was a a UTD fan when it was LFC at the peak, so surely that would have been glory hunting. My lads followed me and the first was born in the late 90's so could have been born on mars and will be classed as a glory hunter
I love these arguments cos I can take the high ground in pretty much every case as I have lived within 400 metres of the stadium since I was 4 bar uni and have also been going to matches since I was 4. Just Saying
you read that wrong I said a kid was born in merseyside but could the fook become LFC fans, not 'could' I am not having a go at you by the way, and as I said you are free to choose who you want Just pointing out that things are not clear cut We have 2 teams in stoke ( stoke city and Port vale) one had its ground in stoke (now more blurton) and the other in burslem stoke are the better team in terms of league standing trophies etc and have the bigger following. there is the same arguments here about their fans, its nonsense imo
County Cork my dad was a Celtic fan but not too big a football fan, but my elder cousin who was already in Shepherds Bush with my Auntie when we moved took me under his wing and took me to games starting when I was 4 so I didn't really have a choice in the matter
You claim your threads are popular fan, but you've posted more than the other top 3 on this thread put together <hoadieboy>
