No, that'll be us Rs in the Prem. Well done Saints, know how you feel from last season. Hope your experience of life back in the PL next time around is more enjoyable than ours!
Anyone know why Martin wasn't on the bench? Been involved in every matchday squad other than today now Seemed a shame for him to miss out
Congratulations to every one at Southampton F.C. - a fantastic season by a "real" club. This feels even better than 1976!!! So proud to be a Saint .... (since 1966!!!)
Just watched the recording after being at game. That match has to be seen twice. Adkins near tears and dying to be with his squad rather than be interviewed. Also liked it when Steve Claridge said there was a lot of money at the club. Everyone speaking about how everything is done properly at the club. Robbie Savage reckoned that win could be worth 200-300K to each player in bonuses. Wonder what NC and NA will get? Whatever it is, they have earned it. Fantastic day and the crowd, including yours truly, are Premier League.
Not sure why Martin wasn't on the bench. To be honest I was a bit disappointed Puncheon came on as IMO he didn't deserve the celebrations at the end. Saying that you just can't argue with NA's decisions! Initially I would have preferred Rickie to come off to a standing ovation but seeing him carried off in the pitch evasion on BBC you could tell how much he was enjoying it!
Relief, relief, relief, relief, relief, relief. Weird maybe, but for me it was just relief. I can still remember the excitement after the FA Cup win but this wasn't like that. It was just about getting over the line after such a great season and we did. Agree that Puncheon shouldn't have come on. Harding for me.
I was amazed to see Sir Nigel Adkins lost for words! He was close to tears, which made me well up. I am sure that St Markus is smiling down on us.
Smug grin. I said before he Posh game, that we'd win that 3-1 and today 4-0. I love football I love Saints I love life! What a day.
It is amazing that on a day like this, one of the best we ever had we still have people moaning about things like Punchy getting time on the pitch. Hopeless.
Don't know but I bet there was a very good reason, why do you think otherwise, blame the 5 bench rule, but I suspect otherwise. Good to see Tadanari Lee dancing despite the cast on his foot!
Having been in France for most of the week and from where I discovered that West Ham had achieved an away win which made today's prospect seen more tense that should have been necessary given the number of points we have dropped over the last month, this afternoon's win was achieved in such a professional fashion that I needn't have worried. I've no doubt that next season will present a challenge and the likelihood of the volume of wins we have become used to over the last two seasons probably less likely. I think we will make a good fist of things and Cortese will want to ensure that we cement our place in the top echelons. The "Swiss Revolution" has been nothing short of amazing. I was pleased to see a return to the Championship last season and anticipated a season of stability for 2011/12. It is brilliant not only to achieve back-to-back promotions but also in the swashbuckling manner of football dictated by Nigel Adkins. My only disappointment is that Marcus wasn't there is witness this massive achievement. I'm confident that this club is now being run better than an any time in it's past and Adkins will prove himself to be savvy at Premiership level. The sight at the final whistle was incredible. Difficult to recall ever having witnessed so much emotion representated as physically as when thousands poured on the pitch. Not only is it great to get promotion but also to achieve this playing the style of football that is so typical of what the club has done in the past when playing at their best. Saints back where they belong. Incidentally, I was in Reims whose own club are currently in the same kind of situation as Saints with them occupyig second place with two games to go after their own draw at Le Harve. Didn't see too much of their red & white around town though! All and all, an amazing day and glad that the stress of the last few months is now over! So near to over-taking jammy Reading too !!
Tadanari Lee was dancing on one foot in the dressing room (shown on Player). Also like Jaidi doing Michael Jackson...he's got rhythm! Good interview with SKD...intelligent footballer. Speaks well...obviously will have a role after his career finishes...an asset to the club. Didn't like NA mentioning that one day there would be a parting of the ways between him and Southampton. I know he was talking about the transient nature of football and he mentions he has a long contract...but we don't want to hear that today. It's a bit like talking about a funeral on your wedding day. The team were all singing about going to Vegas...no imagination, footballers, but I bet they have a great time.
