Read them so which parts are you particularly referring to because I don't see any references to 0.01% market shares and how that can grow a business <doh>

Just to be clear, are you saying your only 'expertise' in this area is from what you've read or do you actually have an opinion of your own?

Let's take Ansoff first. Here we are looking at the relationship of products and markets and their relationship to both opportunity and risk. On a basic level the 2 'givens' are that these elements either exist or they don't. Again staying on a basic level the degree of risk is maximised when both elements are new. Now we know that a market already exists in the US. We know that it is a developing market. We know that our parent company has massive experience of the US sports model and will be of great assistance in developing our market share. Hence our level of risk is diminished by persuing what Ansoff would describe as a Market Penetration strategy where our product (known) is developed in a market that is known. It's not rocket science but Ansoff is a convenient tool to start the thought process. After that we can then consider the BSG growth share/matrix. here we can consider the portfolio of LFC products. At present let's skew that a little and replace products with markets. We already know that to be successful any firm has to have a balanced portfolio of new opportunities. The trick is to use your resources effectively so that you maximise the return over the longer term. Now, the US market is growing and the possible returns are high. However product awareness is relatively low. Hence the opportunity exists to convert a (relatively) small fan base into a major player in a highly profitable market without incurring very high degrees of risk and prejudicing opportunities in other areas of the portfolio. The Advantage matrix helps to define by what means market leadership may be obtained i.e which strategy may be the most profitable. END OF LECTURE.

Now this documentary of itself will merely help to arouse interest in a small group of US sports fans. However, that group is growing both in number, age and spending power. Therefore any communication with these people can help to create a positive attitude that can have a lasting benefit.

I was not trying to be disparaging but when people throw numbers about without examening their true significance it really makes me mad. I have been working with strategic models both academically and professionally for over 30 years - in which time I hope that I have gained at least enough experience to say that I do know what I'm talking about. So I have tried to follow the KISS principle above for the sake of brevity. If you want me to go into more depth then please PM me.

Especially economics. It's like nursing or cleaning out sewers- someone's got to do it, but rather you than me.
I tried to rep you for that post btw, but the bastard site wouldn't let me.

Which is exactly what I said and you disagreed with and you babbled on about 100M viewers.

It took you a while but I'm pleased you're now seeing what I said to be true.

    Thanks.

Your Fox Soccer Channel viewing figures were for the USA weren't they?

Dave said other countries that include the channel via satellite and cable needed to be taken into account.

So if you include Canada,Mexico,Central and South America and the carribbean islands into your figures give us the sum total?

Look, don't get all pissed at me just because you were wrong.

My words "The average viewers for a Prem game on Fox Soccer is 142k. Massive exposure there."

Your words "Now this documentary of itself will merely help to arouse interest in a small group of US sports fans."

Not sure why you're so upset. You made a mistake and then rectified it.

OH and PMT do you see his words "US sports fans." ? Not sure why then you're talking about Mexico etc when he wasn't.

You can argue all you want but your only proving that you have no idea whatsoever about market development strategy and that's the bottom line. The basis of your original argument was wrong - no matter what your 'facts' may suggest.

To use a sailing analogy - there's no point in shouting "it's my right of way" from the deck of a yacht as its being mown-down by a super tanker!

Well, as my 'argument' was that Fox Soccer got small viewing numbers (or have you fabricated some other argument I supposedly made?) and as YOU said "a small group of US sports fans." I really think you're actually the one that has PROVEN I was actually right.

    Keep going...dig dig dig
