not £30mil but i do see us spending in excess of £20mil. Remember rvp himself was hardly a few million. There are plenty of gems out there waiting to be snapped up. I agree its not a good idea selling your best player but in todays market player power is absoloute and what the use having a disgruntled player?

This doesn't make any sense. If we were to transfer list RVP, we would immediately compromise our bargaining position and we would have to accept a lower fee.

No player is bigger than the club, I can't accept players dictating what we should be doing in the transfer market, yes we all would like to buy some top class stars, but it's not always possible unless we break the bank, and let's be honest, we have never really bought big stars in the past. I agree with jayram on this issue, if he is not going to sign, we either need to sell him quickly, or tell him he is staying till the end of his contract, we don't really need the money so it will be no big deal if we lose him for free, considering he will be almost 30 by then.

The only problem with that is how it will affect his performance, and the performance of others, as long as he gave his all, and didn't destabilise the team I would not have a problem with him staying to the end of his contract, in fact it would be a show of intent from the club, and would give us a year to bed in someone like podolski.

Agree <ok> I'd rather he stayed and we lost him on a free next year if he didn't sign. TBH we should have done this with Nasri.

  5. I was referring to Fabregas in the summer, not linking the time of the sale to the price for RVP.

We should have simply said ."NO". He has 3 years left on his contract and its £50m - pay up or shut up.

That's exactly what you were doing though, drawing the same parallel and saying that we should transfer list RVP if he doesn't sign before the Euros.
In my opinion doing this would immediately lower his value as our bargaining position would be compromised.

  7. re-read.

Transfer listing RVP early is not footballing suicide. full stop.

Next sentence ..... Football suicide is... my example of exactly what we did last summer.

Transfer listing RVP, alienating the player and compromising our bargaining position in the process,is footballing suicide.
    Full Stop.

Without RVP we will be a mid table side.

We should offer him whatever he wants to stay.

What worries me is that Gazidis is rubbish when it comes to negotiating with players and agents and i fear he will screw it up.

Wenger needs to be given the authority to deal with the situation and he should use his obvious rapport with RVP to seal things.

Putting RVP on the transfer list would be madness.

  10. Nope. As I said, waiting too long to sell players out of hope, then selling them when hope is gone (in our case too cheaply), then bringing in replacements too late is suicide - as we saw this year.

Hopefully the whole discussion is moot anyway - and RVP will sign before the EURO's

Disagree with this, people said the same thing when henry left, when overmars left, without RVP we will still be in contention for champions league places, and if we buy right can be title contenders with or without him, of course we would prefer him to stay, but we are not a one man team.

You can bury your head in the sand if you like but we ARE a one man team at the moment.

Without RVP's goals this year we would be struggling in the mid table or worse. He has scored almost half of our PL goals this year.

To replace RVP would cost over £30 Mill + wages of over £120k/week, it really is a no brainer to ensure he stays but then why let facts get in the way of
    rhetoric.

  13. enigma is right though - we didnt collapse when Henry left. If RVP leaves, Podolski could step in, plus we have the prospect of young Campbell coming through. Who's to say he wont shine. Remember too that £30m + £120k wages is easily achievable in terms of getting another replacement if RVP leaves. There are lots of options.

the ideal is for RVP to stay, but we cant be caught short like last year. That was just ridiculous.

I do remeber the season Henry left, or was it the season after that, we were only 4 points from winning the league

  15. It was our best season since we won the league.

Yeah, I WOULD NOT WANT RvP to leave but if he does maybe the team will go and have another season like this.

What have we won Since TH14 left?

Bog all and if RVP leaves in the summer we can kiss goodbye to any hopes of winning anything.

    Campbell and Podolski? LMFAO

RVP has never won us anything. He is replaceable even though we would all like to keep him.
