So as NNW said earlier today Baz has sought to quelle the rumours about his seeking to sell up. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9673920.Bassini_denies_takeover_and_investment_claims/ I remember that despite strong denials from Simpson and Ashton it was later proved that the WO did know about the troubled state of our finances. I still keep an open mind on our owner, but until I see the work actually going on in the SW corner I will continue to have doubts. I also read the comments of one fan at Peterborough who tried to speak to Baz and felt quite bad about the way that he had been snubbed.
Read it again OFH - it was the 'fan' (Buckler) who claims to have snubbed Bas, which Buckler found hilarious. There are a lot of absolute tossers on the Wobby site - Buckler, Mr Bankrupt, Alex Hillcroft, Lutondown, Keith Mercer - all of whom do nothing but moan, snipe and make stuff up. Ignore, if you value your sanity!
I wasn't talking about that person harrow. The comment came to me yesterday in an e-mail before the story in the WO. I don't think that I would ever quote from that forum with some of the idiots who post on there.
Me to H, more than happy to say I was totally wrong about him, when we see the new pitch and work starting again in the SW corner then all his promises will have been kept!
I am sorry, but this feels good to say again. please log in to view this image The Dyche out brigade (you know who you are) have been proved wrong and now bit by bit the Baz doubters are being proved wrong and having to admit it.
as part of the "i'm wary of Baz" brigade, i say nothing until he's proved himself, which to be fair, he hasn't yet. But, he hasn't proved himself to be inept yet either, so the jury is still out. i can only go by what i've been told by people who know...and so far, they haven't been proved right or wrong...i'm just erring on the side of cautious optimism...
What has happened to all the honest club owners? Someone who is up front and speaks to the fans and has got the money to carry the club forward. I am not having a go at Baz, it is just a general statement
A rumour that 'confirms' the original rumour, yet points out that it has been denied - and on a QPR blog too. Not worth the time of day IMO.
I am afraid that with a few exceptions these days the sort of person you are talking about just has to wonder what the cost will be. I remember that GT told Elton it could cost him a million if he really wanted first division football and Elton said go for it. We are not talking in those terms any more. Just look at some of the Championship teams and the money they owe to owners. There are at least three sides that come to mind without thinking very hard who are in debt to the tune of £55 M. West Ham in fact reported that they owed over £100M. When it comes to Baz, and yes I have sat on the fence all year about him and still wait for him to put some of his words into practice, then his failure to speak to the fans is in my opinion his biggest failing so far. Without the necessity to report to the stock exchange anything that could affect the running of the club his PR could have been 100% better, but he seems to be unaware of the impression that his silence creates.
Has Bassini proven himself? No. We will turn a profit due to player sales this season, but that proves nothing: we knew Danny Graham, Will Buckley and Marvin Sordell were saleable assets. We will stay up this year, but that proves nothing: Dyche would probably have gotten the job whether Bassini had taken the club over or not. We do have the Yellow and Red Lion, and Bassini deserves all the credit he has received for that. But it proves nothing: it's a detachable asset. Depending on your perspective he has bought time and/or earned the benefit of the doubt, but where I'm sure we all agree is that the proof lies in the stadium.
Be nice if I can get a bit more out of him this year , although if I see him ,I will apologise for my total mistrust ,which is now down to minor scepticism. He promised the pub was late but been delivered , He promised a new pitch , was delayed but coming this summer , He promised that we wouldnt roll over and sell assets cheaply, I think he has gone some way towards that, So as a first year report Has done OK but could do a lot better on the publicity side of things
FINALLY. Its about time there was some real progress on the matter. Its long overdue!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17874013
Selling £7.8m+ of players (and managers) in the last year.... plus the possible £3mish from the Mariappa sale.....it would be good to see some go back into the team.... I don't know how much we will spend....but I would've hoped that £2m would be made available. If we spent that wisely then it could give us that extra quality to challenge for the play offs. George Boyd or Paul Taylor from Peterborough would be good. Both only have 1 year on their contract left...so wouldn't command a fee higher than £1m probably less. Both are good players at this level with the potential to score 15+ goals so would be worthwhile. Think the big question would be the competition. Some teams would probably offer higher wages. Could cash in on the Portsmouth fire sale. They admittedly are looking to sell the whole squad...so could be something there? The rumours of Kitson were not what I had in mind though......Futacs looks like a good player....Luke Varney would be good too.
