Leadbitter has rejected a new pay deal, and has played his last game for us.

"I would like to thank the club for bringing me here in the first place and I have had a great three years here.

Well, frankly, if you've enjoyed it you should be ashamed of yourself, no-one else has!

Just shows what a plum Paul Jewell is for not giving him short shrift.

surely more likely to go to middlesbrough as robson's replacement.

At least we are starting to get rid of the deadwood at long last. Bowyer, Plug and Leadknob. Just leaves Delaney, Bullard & Murphy. <ok>

I'd keep Delaney for sure. He's done a job for us and can continue to. Phase him out yes but realistically we're not going to be signing three or four quality centre backs this summer.

I'm in 2 minds about this, whilst for the majority of his town career he has been useless and certainly not worth what we paid for him, he has got talent, is of a good age and has shown good form recently. I would've expected him to continue this form next season aswell and what's the betting at his next club he shows really good form. I would've liked to have kept him, aslong as he was on reduced wages because it means now we need another player to sign, as there is no doubt now that we need another CM along with the other positions we need filling.

But at the same time, its certainly not the end of the world and I think it's almost like a cloud has left, as he has never really been a fans favourite, so now apart from delaney there's not really a player at the club who people vilify. Mind you I don't dislike Delaney I just think he's useless!! But in a way you're right Hamps, we can't get rid of too many players too soon otherwise it's going to be desperado time again over the summer, i think that's why Jewell gave contracts to Delaney & Healey last summer more to make sure he had the numbers and have a bit of continuity over anything else.

My goodness I suggest you all check out the Leadbitter thread on the Leeds board - he's worth signing on the strength of his free kicks alone apparently <laugh>

Jewell and Clegg have apparently made the revelatory connection between players leaving for no money and leaving their contracts to run down. As opposed to either signing them up before their last year or selling them when they’re not on a free. Incredible logical reasoning required for that (clearly we have some truly great minds leading the club), but they got there in the end. Or so they are claiming.

Anyhow, Delaney (come the end of this season) is one that will come under this new “sign or sell” category. If the club are serious about this new fangled never-considered-before policy of sign or sell, would we prefer Delaney to be signed up for another few years or that we sold him (though who’d actually pay money for him is a mystery)?

Players with contracts up at the end of next season (as far as I’m aware):-

    Delaney
    Bullard
    Ellington
    Hyam
    White
    Ainsley (I think)
    Peters

Very very happy about this !

    Cheerio Grant.

His best spell coincided with his 3 year contract running out - says it all ! If you'd played like from the start, you would have been back in the premiership on performances.

Personally I felt he offered very little.

    - Terrible set piece delivery
    - Zero passing range always backwards.
    - Offered the defence zero protection.
    - Not good in the tackle.
    - Not good in the air.

We're SO MUCH better without him for next season. Saves a load on wages too.
